2004 Nissan Altima 3.5 air conditioning problem?
The car has 104,000 miles. It was blowing hot air so I had some freon put in it. It's ice cold now but it will sometimes get hot again if I turn the car off and back on again. Then as I'm driving I have to turn the air completely off for a few minutes and back on again for the air to be cold. What could be the problem? And when the air is on the car makes a whining sort of noise, almost like a power steering type of noise.

bad compressor seals or clutch.. eventually the noise will get louder as the pressure and refrigerant leaks out. You will eventually need a new compressor, air conditioning flush, evaporator and possibly air conditoner manifold. Not worth it.!!

how do the battery cables look (corroded, clean)? how are the connections (if you grab that cable(s) at the battery and try to move them, they should not budge), and of course are they tight on the other end? which lights came on (interior/exterior), and were they bright or dim? it could be something as simple as loose/bad cables, or a bad battery (how old is the battery)? most auto parts will check your battery for free. Additional Details : 1 day ago The battery connections don't look too bad. The dash lights flash when the car is on. They stay dim and then light up fully. I can't lock my doors with my keychain remote. When I turn the car to the on position (it still won't start) the dash lights up and then goes dark before flashing and really going crazy. I also had a problem getting the key out of the ignition and getting the car out of park when I had it towed. edit: well it sounds like you might have a couple of problems going on? i'll try and answer your addt'l info. i'd have your battery taken out, and charged/tested at your local autoparts (which should do it for free - at least autozone does). i'd check your battery ground (this could cause the flashing lights)?? make sure the battery terminals are clean, inside (part connecting to battery), and outside, is there alot of green looking stuff on the battery cable (looks like it's going under the insulation of the cable)? on some of the imports, the ground cable is grounded in two spots, one to the frame, and the other to the block (engine). try and check that out, and make sure it's tight. is the battery good on your keychain remote? it doesn't take much power to lock and unlock the door (maybe as much as your car stereo, maybe a little more)? having problems with your key, could be worn out key, worn out cylinder (where the key goes), it could be that you need a know ignition switch, which might be part of the ignition lock? you can try to get some powdered (i think it's graphite?) graphite from your local autoparts to put into your lock, and see if that helps the key to move easier. getting it out of park is probably not related? sometimes when your (key is out), and you turn the steering wheel (it locks). sometimes it is hard to put the key in and move the steering wheel back and forth, to get it to unlock. start with having the battery tested, and clean/replace (if need be) the battery terminals, and go from there. g/l
