yeast diaper rash treatment?

my 2 year old has a diaper rash that is starting to turn into a yeast/thrush infection. is there any home remedy for this, like, could i put plain yogurt on it instead of rash cream, or anything else i can do rather than getting a prescription?

not that i'm against getting a prescription, if that's what he needs, but if there's something easier and cheaper that wouldn't require a trip to the doctor, i'd rather try that first.

thanks

Update:

@laredo... you do realize that most boys aren't potty trained until 3 or older? btw.. my son just turned 2 a month ago. he's not ready. i've tried with poor results, and i really don't think that his diaper rash from a bad case of diarrhea has anything to do with whether or not he's willing or ready to poop on the potty.

Update 2:

and i do change him whenever he's wet or dirty. i don't let him just walk around in it. this is the only diaper rash he's had in his life, again, because he has a bad case of diarrhea (which btw, i'm also treating with a strict brat diet) i've gone throug almost two tubes of diaper cream in the past week, trying to getit to go away. i'm not stupid, thank you.

Try Monistat 7 - seriously. It's nothing more than an anti - fungal cream. Apply a very thin layer, and then cover it with a good, sticky barrier cream twice a day. The rash should be gone in a couple of days.

How much longer do you plan on keeping the kid in diapers? A two-year old should be well on the way to potty training. Bathe the rash area with warm soapy water. Dry it thoroughly and then apply a coat of Vitamin A&D Ointment and do that every time you change the diaper. It is a fast healing ointment and there was a time when that was the only medication doctors prescribed for diaper rash. You can buy it at the pharmacy or even at a grocery store without a prescription. Don't let the little one walk around for hours wearing a wet diaper.

Yes yogurt is good... you need to put antioxidants on it

you might want to just google and search around the web for antioxidants found in fruits and natrual stuff, or call up a holistic practitioner (they wont give ehm meds and can probaly tll you what to get from yur local store)

"something easier and cheaper that wouldn't require a trip to the doctor"

Any generic OTC anti-fungal cream. Ask the pharmacist to point out something suitable if you can't find it. Your own "Monistat" or similar will work fine. You really do not need to see a doctor for this.
