Cashing check from credit union?

I recieved a check from a person who uses Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union. Can I cash this at any bank? What would the service fees be like?

I'm obviously somewhat ignorant of these types of things so let me know if anything needs clarification.

Update:

I've cashed many checks at banks I do not bank with. About a month ago I cashed a wachovia check at a BB&T. Thanks for wasting both our time with false information and impractical suggestions...

You can cash that check at your own bank, or at the credit union it's written on. You can also cash it at places like Walmart.

It's highly unusual that BB&T allowed you to cash a Wachovia check. Banks usually don't do that.

No. You can only cash a check where YOU have a bank account.

Sign the back of the check - give it to your mom - she will deposit it in her checking account. She will give you the cash
