I know how you feel, my hamster just died and I couldn't stop crying for about a week. Most hamsters live to around 2 years but some hamsters have naturally longer or shorter life spans and nothing you could have done would have made her live longer because she lived out her own personal full life span. I don't think anyone would suggest that you didn't do everything you could and you were a great owner. I know hamsters are never "just hamsters", they are your friend, part of the family and when they die they break your heart. I'm very sorry for your loss and I hope you feel better soon. Burying her with all her favourite toys and having a little funeral will help you to say goodbye. Talking to your friends and family will help you come to terms with your grief too. I won't tell you to get another hamster straight away as right now I really miss having a hamster but the idea of getting another one repulses me. However getting another hamster may help you get over your grief although never buy another hamster to replace your old one or you will feel awful but I'm sure you wouldn't. I can't promise that you will ever feel completely better but give yourself some time and remind yourself you were a great owner to her and eventually you will feel better and be able to remember her happily. Try watching or reading the rainbow bridge poem. It will comfort you but make sure you have some tissues near!

I hope this helps and you feel better :-) RIP

Most Syrian hamsters live from 1 1/2 years to 2 years but,

it is possible for them to live up to 2 to 3 years.

It really depends on the hamster and how they're taken care of: health, habitat, diet, hygiene..etc.

    I'm sorry about your hamster/sister :c

But you can always hope that a friend is there when a pet dies.

I've had 3 syrian hamsters in the past, and all three of them made it to around the 2 year mark. I'm sure you gave your hamster a wonderful life whilst she was your pet, and that's all she really could have wanted :) It's natural to feel upset, but don't blame yourself, it's not your fault she got ill.

  • To help them live longer you need to not wake them up in the day time and make sure they're do a lot of exercise and plenty of water and food.

    Hope this helped.

My Hamster lived for 3 1/2 Years by doing these things.

Always make sure that her cage is clean. I clean my Syrian hamster's cage everyday. My dwarf hamster that i used to have got a respiratory infection because she had babies and people told me that i should clean her cage or the babies would die so she sadly passed away :(..... so always remember to clean their cage every day!!!

Source(s): I have many pets and have owned many hamsters. (I have a syrian hamster right now! she is 1 & 2 months :) )
