I have driven both and the petrol wins easily and doesn't sound like you should be dragging a plough behind it. It was so good I now own one.
As for someone saying the diesel is better inside ..... face palm ..... They are identical inside, there is no difference between the two at all.
Also the difference of economy is not that great as you will do more miles to a tank BUT you lose that advantage at the pumps as diesel is much more expensive than petrol.
Remember though they are not cheap to run and if your buying one make sure it has full BMW service history and a BMW warranty if possible as the petrol is twin turbo and cost thousands if they go wrong.

The 330/5D se and m sport both have the same suspension (well the coupe versions do in the UK), the SE looks better in my opinion with a AC Schnitzer bodykit on :)
But the D is only 0.5 seconds slower 0-60 than the i but the torque of the D is immense. Plus the D does not sound anything like any other diesel car on the road, grunts and growls all the way up to the limiter

The diesel is the best of both worlds. Performance and economy. Have your cake and eat it too. I was blown away when I drove that and the X5 35d model. The torque of that engine is immense. The interiors are the same regardless of the engine so I dunno what that other person was talking about and regarding BMWs being lemons is erroneous. Sure they have cars that end up getting lemoned like any other manufacture and it's a machine so it's not unheard for machines to break down. If anything it's unconvientent and annoying if that was someone's experience but is a mass produce automobile and if you expect that shouldn't happen because it's a bimmer your own expectations set you up for failure.
Anyways I digress the diesel for sure hands down!

Sorry i don't known from personal experience anything about the 335d but my son had a 330D M Sport and with respect to evelyn, who i normally agree with, this is a bl**dy good car. He and i went up to Santa Pod the other week, a 290m round trip. Average mpg was 60.2mpg. Miser? Hmmm, worth saving money on fuel to put aside towards the nasty bill when the run flat tyres need replacing!
The handling and braking are very good and living in a semi rural area there are not too many cars that can approach it on windy country roads.

Take them both on a test drive and see which you prefer. I personally think choosing an engine you like less because of economy is silly, especially when the prices of the engines are the same and you're getting a "performance economy" engine, a 335d. Of course, you may drive the 335d and fall in love. It's all up to you.

The 335d isn't really about saving money, especially here in the U.S. where diesel fuel is more than premium fuel.
The great thing about the d is the tq, the mileage, the range, and it handles like a BMW. I love the 335d.

Petrol all the way. Diesels are for sad misers. If you want to save money buy a bloody Punto!
