Deselect cells in Excel 2010 for Mac?
I'm working with a large spreadsheet where I need to protect only certain cells. I only seem to be able to select large areas or select random non-adjacent cells. How do I go about DESELECTING cells from a large data field? I don't particularly want to create a Macro, I'm just baffled that such a command isn't available any help would be appreciated, again I'm using Excel 2010 for Mac
Cheers,
I want to 'SELECT' a large area, and then selectively DESELECT the cells I don't want. I remember being able to do this when i used Excel on a PC.

You can't do exactly what you described. What you can do is to hold the Command key down as you select cells and select all the ones that you are interested in.

You can't deselect cells after selecting a large range of cells. You can hold down the equivalent to the Ctrl button which I think is the Command button on a Mac while you add groups to it. If you are going to be referencing this group a lot, then I'd recommend naming the range. So that you can easily reselect all of the cells you want by referring to the range name. You also might want to try using a filter.
As far as protecting them. Select all of your cells on the worksheet. Then right click and go to formatting and under protection uncheck the locked property. Then go back and select all of the cells you want protected and set the locked property to true by checking it. Then protect the worksheet.
