Why isn't my wireless router connecting to the internet?
I have a Netgear WPN824N wireless router that I've had for a year now. I lent it to my friend, who was staying in my old apartment, over the summer. He informed me that he had to reset the router and created a new network with a new password.
Now, I took the router back and am trying to get it to connect to the internet. The computer recognizes the router and shows 5 bars out of 5 for connectivity. However, there is the yellow caution triangle and the status box shows "No Internet Connection".
I have successfully entered the new network name/password and done about all I can think of, including restarting the computer. Any suggestions? You can take me back a few steps if needed.
Thanks.

Did he happen to give you the password? Giving a WPA/WPA2 security enabled router the wrong password results in a reported wireless connection with no IP information or packets ever received. Run ipconfig from a command prompt, if your computer shows something other than 192.168 as the first few octets in your IP address, you are most likely using the worng WPA/WPA2 password or wireless network key. Reset the router again and set it up from scratch to fix this.

What type of internet connection do you have? If you have cable, it should just connect through, and the only thing you might need to check is the encryption password. If DSL, you would have to check where the login information is stored. For DSL, the username/password are stored on the modem, and to go to bridge mode (putting the login info on the router) you need to get into the modem to set it first, then set the info in the router.
Worst case scenario, reset the router.
