Which is faster, the speed of light, or the speed of thought?
While some would choose a comical comment, that some brains are naturally slow, I ask those with a serious analytic sense, how would you describe the difference?
I believe that thought is much faster; for, while light travel is measurable by a certain distance per second, and certain light years to get to certain stars, thought, is outside the boundaries of the very universe in an instance. I wonder how many of you would agree to this.
While it may seem impossible for man to develop travel techniques to suit this speed, it is believed that it's the manner of travel of ethereal bodies like angels and demons; spirits in generall; which is why they tend to suddenly appear and disappear.
This is simply my opinion in the matter; probably not too accurately scientific.
I wonder, why in the world would a question asked politely, have someone like Mr. Al Fart label its asker as "an idiot", and a "cretin"? I don't recall stepping on anyone's tail. Some high percentage "best answerers" should seriously be reevaluated on Yahoo Answers.
My fault, if most of you did not get my point clear. My reference to the speed of thought is the speed of the occurrence of thought, not the speed of distance travel of thought. I'm sure you all know that your thought of some distant galaxy occurs in your brain before light gets to it from where you stand. It's the speed of thought occurrance that I spoke of, not distance coverage, as I'm not "idiot" enough to think of the non-physical as physical.
Thanks to those whose answers were strictly scientific; appreciated.

Well, if we could travel at the speed of thought that would obviously be faster
as in practically instantaneous to any conceivable place
however
this question is sort of like asking
'which is stronger, steel or body odor?'
not really comparable because they don't do the same thing

A 'thought' is a process that occurs in the brain, and it is a physical process involving neurons and electricity, chemistry, and physics. When I think 'I'll move my arm' there is a sequence of complex interactions that eventually culminates in my muscles contracting and my arm moving. This is not 'outside the universe'. Our brains are just complicated arrangements of the same matter that makes up everything else. Therefore by 'speed of thought' you probably mean something like 'the time between the beginning of the thought process and your brain being consciously aware of the thought'. This is not comparable to the 'speed' of light (distance / time). Also, we know that the process is not ultra-fast because we can look at EEG and monitor brainwaves and examine f-NMR images.

Light is waaaaaaaaaaay faster than thought.
Thought is just an accumulation of electro-chemical impulses in the brain. It takes about .15 to .3 seconds to react to a stimulus. [See source.] And the brain is, what, maybe 1/6 meter in diameter? In that brief .15 seconds, a photon will travel 44,850,000 meters.
Bottom line, the photon will travel about 270 million times farther than that .15 second thought. Light is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than thought. QED.

Light can travel faster and farther than any thought! A thought only stays within a measured area about the size of a baseball! Light can get to the nearest planet quicker than it takes to get the thought out of the head!

Even without the numbers that other answerers have given, consider the physical impacts.
Light is mostly energy/part matter, that travels without using any medium.
But thought has to travel through a physical medium (our nerves) and relies on chemical reactions to propogate the thought. That is a huge double-whammy that slows it down. A double-whammy that light isn't affected by.

You seem to think that thought is some magical, nonphysical thing. You might want to read up a bit on neurophysiology.
Honestly, most of your question is pure nonsense, and you'd surely be better off jettisoning a lot of your world view. There's a fascinating real physical world, and you're part of it. Why make up a pretend one?

The cosmic speed limit is supposed to be the speed of light, so the speed of thought would have to be equal or lessor if you believed this theory. I for one think that limit can be beat though, this article gave me a few ideas on that http://seekyt.com/warp-drive-tomorrow/

Light is the fastest thing in the universe so thought is most probably slower, but definitely isn't faster.

Eliz;
The brain is an electro-chemical organ. Thoughts travel inside the brain through neurons at the speed of light.

Light is faster than the thought.
