Woke up and my dogs eyes have turned milky over night?

I'm not talking a milky film either. It's like his actual eyes have gone from cute brown eyes to this milky bluey grey. They were completely fine yesterday. His sight doesn't seem to be affected and he seems totally normal aside from looking like he's trying out for a part in Twilight or something.

I've made a vet appointment for Monday, even the vet said she's no idea why that would happen so suddenly.

Anyone have any thought or experiences?

He's about 6 and a pug/terrier/Chihuahua mix who's normally healthy and up to date on all shots, heartworm, etc.

Update:

Thanks MamaBas, but the vet said discharge, redness, pain and some vision loss would accompany glaucoma, none of which he has.

Surfing the net, nuclear sclerosis seems likely, but again, the suddenness is what seems so odd.

Update 2:

My vet just called. They had a cancellation. I suppose I'll have an answer in a few hours.

If he has glaucoma, the eye(s) can blow at any time. This is serious and you need to be seeing a professional today, not leaving it until Monday. If it is glaucoma, it might be possible to give drops to reduce the pressure, but it may already be too late to save one, or even both eyes, if they have both gone. And this condition is painful.

ps I don't know why your vet should have suggested she has no idea why this would happen so suddenly, much as no vet will express an opinion without seeing the dog. I hope she's specialised enough to deal with eye conditions, or know enough to refer you.

I'd think cataracts, it can present the blue/grey color you mentioned.

"Seventy-five percent of all dogs diagnosed with cataracts will develop cataracts within one year of the first diagnosis and it can develop very rapidly, literally overnight in some very severe cases."

Source(s): http://ethos.ag/cataracts-eye-drops/cataracts-for-... The quote is in the second paragraph, in the 4th line.
