Steering is stiff and squeaks when driving in the morning. Also, found fluid (water?) on the ground...?
2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT
When I start the car, especially in the mornings or after not driving it for a while, the steering is stiff. The wheel will turn a bit and then be very resistant and I'll hear squeaking. Turning the wheels with the car stopped is almost impossible. If the car is in motion, it's a lot easier and it seems that once the steering "warms up," it's fine, even when stopped. The steering fluid level is fine, maybe a little above max. What could be the problem? What should I do?
Also, I just drove my car a few blocks and back. When I returned, I noticed what appeared to be a puddle of water (clear and odorless) where I had been parked. I had been parallel parked and my steering had been HORRIBLE while trying to get out. So I'm wondering if this could have anything to do with it. There was heavy rain yesterday and I hadn't driven the car since, so could the puddle just be from rain water resting in my car and being displaced when I started driving today?

where did that moron get "power steering leak" out of what you posted? beats me.
wiggle the belt to check for tension, there are tables that describe whats acceptable for multiple belts.
squirt the p.s. belt lightly with water to diagnose belt squeek or faulty pump.
if you have a single sepentine belt its most likely grime on your pulleys.
there is a product called belt dressing. aerosol spray can. makes belts sticky and preserves them. but that is only a temporary band-aid.
if the fluid smells burnt suck it out with a turkey baster and refill. start the car move the steering from side to side. repeat until fluid is see through. 3 quarts of fluid is much cheaper than replacing a p.s. pump.
hit me up *best answer* good luck.

Power steering fluid leak... either the high pressure hose or low pressure hose or the reservoir is leaking. The P/S pump depends on hydraulic fluid to function correctly, power steering fluid or automatic transmission is basically nothing more then 10weight hydraulic fluid, dye is added to give it the distinctive color.

was your AC on? that will explain the water under the car, its condensation from the ac.
Check the belt, see if its tight
