Amanda Knox, will her conviction stand up on appeal?

I have read about how things are different now that prosecutor Mignini has been convicted on other charges and the DNA evidence has been disproved.

I have also read that the judge and jury decided to try to forget about Mignini's rants and the bogus DNA tests, and focus on what is important, the believable evidence found at the crime scene and statements Knox made when not under interrorgation, as well as her cell phone records.

In addition they decided to ignore anything she may have been forced to say while being interrorgated by the down's syndrome cops or anything they read in the local guido news papers.

Essentially the case against Knox was written in the blood stains found on the floor of her home.

Knox signed a confession. Written in Italian, it declared that Knox had accompanied Patrick Lumumba to the house on the night of November 1st. She had been standing in the next room while Lumumba stabbed Kercher to death.

It was this confession that turned Knox from a suspect into one of the 4 people who took part in the murder of Meredith Kercher.

While Patrick says he was not there and has an alibi, the alibi is several of Patrick's customers saw him tending bar all night.

I have some experiance at spending a night at a bar drinking with some guy friends.

Alcohol makes it difficult for your brain to form memories. I often find it difficult to remember things that happened while I was drinking. I know some women who can only remember things that happen at a party that happened up to a certain point, after that they have have gotten so drunk, that it is a complete blank from starting another drink to waking up the next morning.

Therefore it is quite possible that they remember Patrick tending bar in the early evening, but don't remember him leaving.

I have also received telephone calls from guy friends where he asks several of the guys at the bar that he drinks with, to say that he was at the bar with them all night, if his wife or girlfriend ask us where he was ( he was on a date with another woman).

I think it is rather unfair that the prosecution let Patrick go, just because he was able to create an alibi. Bein as the same confession that put Amanda in jail for 26 years was not believed when they read the part about Patrick. Especially when Patrick is most probable to be the guy who actually did the stabbing.

I would be willing to bet that if those Italian cops put those customers under interrogation for enough hours without letting them sleep, At least one of them would finally admit that they did Patrick a favor and helped him create a fake alibi.

As Claudio said "guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty." The 4 guilty ones are Patrick ,Rudy Guede, Amanda and her boyfriend Raffaele.

This question is not in the travel Italy section. It is in the Perugia section. If someone is planning a visit to Perugia, it is a good thing to know about Perugia and how bad the police and criminal justice system is there.

If you stay out of trouble when you are in Perugia, this won't be a problem for you , but if you are in anyway associated with a crime there, you must immediately contact the United States consul.

The reason that Amanda Knox is in prison is she is so naive. As soon as the body was found,The Italian girls she was sharing the house with called their lawyers, and Meredith Kercher's British friends fled the country.

This left Amanda as the only person the police could use as a suspect. If Amanda had a lawyer present when she was interrogated, I guarantee that the cops would have to blame the whole thing on that black guy Rudy.

Personally, I think the verdict was based solely on the DNA evidence and now that it is inadmissible, her appeal might stand a chance. The prosecutors don't really have any other evidence to convict her with, so I think her and her former lover will be released shortly after her next court date. My answer is formulated based on studying the case intensely. Most american journalists, reporters, and news stations have been saying that she does have a considerable chance of being freed on appeal. It doesn't even look like she was at the crime scene the night of the incident, plus apparently the weapon with Knox's DNA found on it wasn't even the alleged murder weapon. The knife was used to cut bread. This case was blown way out of proportion. Ultimately, there was a lone killer: Rudy Guede.

Warning, I went to that site that the Blue Devil recommended.

I was trying to sign in using a proxy (after my IP was banned),they got mad and sent my computer a worm and one of those rowge programs that pretends to be an anti malware program that you must buy or your computer won't work right.

There is a war going on in cyberspace between some geeks in the US who want Amanda freed, and some geeks in the UK who want anybody who may have killed Meredith Kercher to stay in jail. Now that the appeal is coming up soon things are getting nasty.

You have to take into account that the trial takes place in Perugia, not someplace where there are competant lawyers or police. Frank Sfarzo, a local blogger who has followed the trial more obsessively than anyone, Said "Nobody here's good at their job, If they were, they wouldn't be in Perugia."

This question has absolutely something to do with the Travel-Italy section. Donald Trump has asked America to boycott Italy if Ms. Knox is not freed on appeal. There are plenty of other places we can go on our vacations.

  • While Amanda testified that what she planned to do that night was work as a waitress in Patrick Lummaba's cafe. He texted her and said business was slow that night, and there would not be enough for her to do. Her text message to him was "see you later". While she claims that she spent that night in her boyfriends flat getting stoned and shagging.

What happened then was Patrick made arangements for his fake but believable alibi. As a Amanda said, she saw him later when She got together with Patrick and her boyfriend and went to Meredith's house to do the crime.

  • Not a chance. I ask anyone who believes she is guilty to visit injusticeinperugia.org.

*EDIT* @ Jennifer, that site isn't giving me any problems.
