How do I keep the correct date format when I import data from a spreadsheet?

Hi

I have exported some data in CSV format into a spreadsheet, which I am using as a merge document. One of the fields is the date (actually the date of birth of the recipients of the mail merge). In the spreadsheet the date format is correct (ie, the English way to write a date: 18 August 2011) This is as I wish it to appear in the mail merged letter. However, once I link the spreadsheet to my letter, the date format changes to 08-18-11. How do I format the spreadsheet to ensure the data is exported into my letter exactly as it appears in the spreadsheet? Thanks.

This should be controlled by the field properties in the merge document. Select the field and place it in the document. Right click on the field, click on Edit Field, click on Field Codes and beside the date enter the format dd-mmm-yyyy and that should format the date field for you.

If this method should fail for some reason, you could select and copy the data in Excel and copy into a Word table and the formatting should paste into Word (works for me using MS Office 2007)
