If you have family that can protect you from the BMA then no.They can insist against drugs but people usually adhere to doctors advice and then you are in their hands.
The prescription of drugs to affect mental health as ordained by the BMA,doctors and psychiatrists is a monopoly that cannot be challenged...Once sectioned ...don't bother you are F@@ed...Take your pills/ECT or be forced to do so.
The industry is highly profitable and doesn't want any opposition in it's way.
As far as the value of medication for all mental ailments...we really don't know what the human condition is so we cannot tell if we are doing more harm than good...
No-body comes out of any mental home cured...but hey...does anyone care or ask why?
No...as I said...ask a psychiatrist and they will assure you they know what they are doing.
Ex- Mental Health Support Worker who has seen elderly forced to take drugs and ECT.
