Why does God have to be all powerful?
Just because you can make a watch doesn't mean you can make a Ferrari. Why do religious people always think that God has to be omnipotent? I mean, couldn't something with finite power still make the universe conceivably?
(Though I'm an atheist, for the record, so no need for comments like "well God isn't real." Yeah, I know, I'm just saying why do religious people feel the need to heard themselves into tough arguments by saying God is omnipotent?)

Why does God have to be all powerful? There is no "have to" to it. There just is, what there is. God is all powerful, becuase that is an inherent part of the nature of God. It's very simple.

Well, there are actually two answers to this question.
1- The meaning of (a) God is an all-powerful being. Therefore, limitations is a difficult concept to grasp. This is especially apparent in "Couldn't something with finite power still make the universe conceivably". For example, if a creature created the universe and displayed these powers to you, how could you believe he could have some upper limit of power.
"So you have infinite amounts of power?"
"No, I can only create universes."
2- People need him to be all powerful. Whether biblical history is true or not, it remains so. This is explained in very good detail in Paradise Lost, where Chaos and Pandemonium are literal places. If the savior of the human race wasn't all powerful, then there would be an area in which people's fates would be hopeless. If someone followed all the rules and was still condemned to hell because God couldn't do anything about it. Pretty grim ending to the story, yes?
EDIT: Just thought about this. In every religion God states his omnipotence. So, in reality we DON'T know if he is actually omnipotent. Similar to example (1), all we know is that it is stated that God created the universe, stated that he is omnipotent, and that his power limit has not been reached.

Because God created the universe and his Son, Jesus will some day judge every person. Every knee shall bow and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:11-14)

because otherwise, he wouldn't be God. Jesus says that God is Spirit. The word Spirit is synonymous with the word mind. God is mind; awareness & power(energy) and he must have absolute power since he made everything from nothingness. We can keep trying to break down light mechanics into strings & particles but ultimately, this is a holographic illusion of reality & it all comes out of complete nothingness. That's the Biblical claim, that God made the worlds from nothing but his own thought, which is the concept & his own Word, which is the power. In light-mechanics, it's nothing but a communication thought-process sustaining it all, depending on how you look at it of course but the energy itself is ability only because the original Word of God sustains it. That's what Jesus said, the entire universe is sustained by him & he is the Word of God.
Whatever began the universe must be omniscient, making such complexity from such easily simplified mathematical equations. See, all God's attributes just fit together & if you take one away, it's not God at all, but some caused force with no self-awareness.

It's not a way out of tough arguments, its scripture. Jesus said "with God all things are possilble", etc... But look at the darwinist arguments on this site, they heard themselves into tough arguments by hiding behind billions and billions of years ... like they really know what happened billions and billions of years ago

There is nothing particularly tough about saying that God is omnipotent.
It is you, after all, and not me that struggles with the concept hehe.
And there is no argument to be made about it either. It simply is the way it is.
God says he is omnipotent.
It is not a matter of necessity or philosophy, it simply is.

God is all powerful.God doesn't need the permission of atheists (people he created and gave freewill to accept Him or reject Him).
