Who Marx thinks should rule...?

So, after reading Howard Zinn's The People's History of the United States for a history class, I've become much more cynical of government and have recognized the need for a truly egalitarian system. I agree with Zinn (and other communists) that equality cannot come from reform, that a revolution of "the Guards" is necessary. However, I'm curious as to how Karl Marx (or Zinn) thinks a society should be politically operated. Clearly, our current republic is corrupt; our politicians seek mainly to benefit themselves and their corporate allies. So what is Marx's alternative?

    1) Proletarian Revolution to take the power

    2) Proletarian Dictatorship to flat the social field on a single class system(elimination of the Capitalists and re-education of the population)

    3) Socialism or Communism (in the last case with dissolution of the government)

Weather Underground (Bill Ayers) had this plan for the US, with a planned elimination (killing) of about 25 million people...

Truth is that EVERY single tentative has always stopped at the point 2, becoming a mass murderer dictatorship

Communism is the fair distribution of poverty" - Winston Churchill
