Car won't shift into reverse gear?
I have an 03 Tiburon GT which recently had the engine and clutch replaced. I am having trouble getting into reverse now though. Anytime I go to put it in reverse it scratches. I have tried double clutching which fails, and i have tried to start the car in reverse, which works sometimes, but very often it will start to move forward slowly. It also has trouble getting into First gear and Fourth gear. Any Ideas what could be causing this and the average repair cost for this problem?

I waited till I saw first gear mentioned before going on. 1st and reverse share the same gear. reverse has a separate interconnecting gear that you push in place when going into reverse, the main shaft gear is the one shared by both. most likely the shifter arm is worn out on your shifter at the bottom and is not fully engaging the linkage inside the trans. I have seen many times worn bushings etc in this shifter body that amaze me any gear was found. this is evident from a real sloppy shift gate meaning it will move all around with little resistance. even when in gear the shifter can be moved a lot. if you have this it needs rebuilt. cost should be around 2 hours max shop time and possibly 70 dollars parts. a secondary thought was in the safety lock out for reverse but you stated 1st was an issue as well and that was the catch words. the other gears may be helped by this as well. want a bit better description of what I'm talking about? think of a new lock and key. they click into place solid and the key is snug in the socket. 5 years later the key is sloppy and takes jiggling to get it to release. yours is the old lock!

There are quite a few opportunities. One, you're no longer pushing the seize all the thank you to the floor, opposite is a sprint pickier approximately that than forward gears. 2, you have something incorrect which incorporate your seize mechanism (out of adjustment, or in some vehicles air in a hydraulic line) or in basic terms a worn seize disc or throwout bearing it is preserving the seize from thoroughly disengaging. I even have an MG Midget that did this, it became a slave cylinder pushrod that had bent so the seize does no longer flow each and each of how. 3, you have a wiped out synchro on your transmission. With a 23-365 days-old motor vehicle, any of those is plausible. The Cartalk adult males would recommend you attempt the seize, via putting the front bumper against something motionless like a tree, putting the parking brake, positioned the motor vehicle in 5th kit and attempt to force forward. If the engine would not die, you have a wiped out seize disc and you will want a sparkling seize, yet the two way you will probable choose for one when you attempt this.

Weak/Bad Pressure Plate and/or Trow-Out Bearing. Possible Bad/Weak Clutch Slave Cylinder. (Clutch not fully Disengaging Transmission)

if the clutch was just replaced, go back and have them check out the clutch linkage.

it could be the syncromesh in the gearbox i would have a have someone have a look at it or yourself but its worth ruling it out
