glass object in pocket went through the wash cycle?

A glass object was mistakenly left in the pants pocket and the clothing went through the wash cycle. Unfortunately, the object broke, the glass shards ended up with the rinse water. Now the washer is making a grinding sound whenever the drum is agitating or spinning. Is the washer toast or can it be fixed or otherwise?

The shards have gotten into the actual cabinet of the machine, or it wouldn't be making noise.

Any repair person can take it apart, clean out the glass, and re-assemble it. (Providing the glass hasn't damaged something)

I am not clear on whether this just happened -- like the load with the glass shards is still in the washer? Or did this happen sometime ago, and now the washer is making a funny sound?

If the load with the glass object is still in the washer, after removing the clothes, carefully wipe around the tub with a wet paper towel to get all the glass shards that you can. It might be good to wear some kind of gloves while you are doing this as you do not want to cut your hands.

If this happened sometime ago, I don't know if the strange noise in the washer is because of the glass shards. I would think that the tiny ones would just go out with the drain water and the larger ones would stay in the washer.

Here's what I would do in any case. Run about 3 full cycles (no clothes) of the washer on full load. After each cycle is complete, do the wet paper towel thing in the drum. I cannot imagine that the glass shards are interfering with the spinning or agitating. I would think that they are either down the drain or still in the washer.

Maybe there's a repair-person out there who can help!

A qualified washer repair guy will be able to sort it, no problem.. they do stuff like this all day long because we leave keys, and money etc in pockets.. it will be cheaper than buying a new one..
