should we view pre-integration statistics differently?

since it would be possible that the best players were not allowed to play? this of course was not really fault of the players, and they were just playing given the circumstances of the times.

should this way of thinking be applied to the "steroid era"? now you could say the players did have control here. if some did it though, didn't they all have to. in order for things to be equal. it isn't like anybody was stopping the few.

    Can it be that those old Black leagues weren't of MLB quality. More like Eastern League Double A?

    Absolutley, I give pre-integration players their due respect, but I really doubt joe dimaggio could have hit in 50-something games in a row in today's game or babe ruth hitting 700+ home runs in today's game. I personally think that the best 2 players ever played after integration, Hank Aaron and Ken Griffey Jr (imagine what he could have done if he was healthy his whole career)
