is not drinking milk bad?

So i'm not lactose intolerant or anything, and i don't have any food allergies but i never drink milk, its completely gross to me. i cant have more than one sip without feeling nauseous. i also don't like cheese or yogurt. yogurt is just to gooey and event he smell of cheese disgusts me. i eat the cheese on pizza but thats about it. everywhere i look i see posters saying milk builds strong bones and that its so important to my growth(im 13). so should i be worried that i'm not getting enough nutrients? are my bones gonna be weaker? what else can i eat to get dairy into my diet?

No you don't need to eat milk or dairy products to be healthy. You don't need any certain food or food group but you do need to know the nutrients that your disliked foods have so you can get those nutrients elsewhere...and there are almost always other ways to get the nutrients you need if you are are willing to try other kinds of foods. It doesn't sound like you are really all that picky about your foods, just don't like milk and dairy.

If you like ice cream or frozen yogurt that is certainly one way to get some dairy. It is certainly not a food to eat as much as you want, it has a lot of fat and sugar and the mix-in's can make it hard to call it healthy. But if you avoid the gooey ice creams with candy bar type ingredients and eat lower-sugar ice creams with fresh fruits, you will have a nice wholesome dessert or snack.

The vegan community will have a lot of information that can help you do without milk and dairy, even if you don't follow a strictly vegan diet. Since you don't like the taste of these foods, you don't need fake or alternatives to them, but you can learn the foods vegans eat to get the nutrition associated with them.

The Got Milk? website http://www.whymilk.com/index.php lists that milk has 9 essential nutrients: Protein, Vitamin D, Potassium, Calcium, Vitamin B-12, Riboflavin, Phosphorus, Vitamin A, and Niacin. (Milk also offers varying amounts of fat, which is also necessary in small quantities.)

    Vegan sources of these nutrients:

    Protein: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/protein.htm

    Vitamin D: http://vegandietitian.blogspot.com/2009/06/vitamin...

    Potassium: http://www.drugs.com/cg/potassium-content-of-foods...

    Calcium: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/calcium.htm

Vitamin B12: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/b12.htm (also very common in red meat if you eat that)

    Riboflavin: http://www.veganpeace.com/nutrient_information/nut...

    Phosphorus: http://www.vegtalk.org/vegan-nutrients/phosphorus-...

    Vitamin A: http://www.hoptechno.com/bookfoodsourceA.htm

    Niacin: http://www.healthaliciousness.com/articles/foods-h...

Fats: can come from olive oil, nuts, coconut, avocado, etc...and if you are a meat eater, meats. Plant fats are better for you than animal fats.

This should help you do without, and not have gaps in your nutrition.

You don't necessarily need u in your diet, in fact some believe that ingesting cow milk (dairy) is not ideal for humans at all. You can find plenty of foods that will give you the same, if not more, of the positive nutrients found in milk. Many other foods are high in protein and calcium. The media and milk industries have portrayed milk as a necessary part of the human diet, but that is not necessarily true. Don't believe everything you see on tv or in magazines. Eat salmon for protein and broccoli for calcium. You'll be fine!

You just need a healthy supplement for protein and calcium, there are lots of sources of those two things and not eating or drinking dairy is not bad for you. Although milk is good for humans and is delicious, it has been proven that our bodies have not properly evolved to be able to properly utilize dairy past the age of four. We are the only species on this planet that continues to drink milk beyond infancy. SO your all good, no need to worry about milk, just get some calcium in you thats what helps you grow strong bones!

Milk products are important health-wise due to the large amounts of Calcium. Calcium helps build strong bones, as I'm sure you've heard a million times. Sadly, however, not many other foods often adequate portions of Calcium. You can still receive your daily Calcium intake by consuming Calcium tablets or Multivitamins. I would strongly recommend consulting a physician, or at least your parents, before taking such supplements.

In a few years, your appetite might change and you might be able to stomach milk products again. So keep your head up :)

It won't effect your health, there are vegans who don't eat or drink anything from animals. But milk keeps you strong, and if you don't get enough calcium your bones may become weak in old age, maybe take a calcium vitamin?

Not drinking milk is perfectly fine. It's probably better to drink no milk at all and as a matter of fact dairy is actually not that good for you.

Don't get me started on milk! LOL! I'll just say this... Humans are the ONLY animals that drink milk after weening, and we're the only animals that drink the milk of OTHER animals. I'm just saying...

    Makes you think...

That said, you can always take a calcium supplement.

dairy is very important. however, if you don't eat any form of dairy then i do reccomend taking calcium pills/gummies/chocolate. you can find it at any cvs/target/etc. my sister used to take these chocolate cubes that were for calcium.. they were good she said.. so you definitely need calcium for bones, teeth, etc. it helps your growth, especially because your at the age where growth is most important. i would talk to your doctor about this. if not, just get calcium pills and take them everyday!

Actually, if you do your research, you'll find that dairy products are pretty bad for you. Which, of course, includes milk.
