Am I allowed to hunt with a BB/pellet gun in (Coralville) Iowa and where can I find this info?
The reason I was wondering is because I own a BB/pellet gun and wanted to know if it is legal or not. Also for those wondering my gun shoots both BBs and pellets. It's a 760 pump master .177CAL if that helps if not just ignore it
All help is appreciated.
Thank you
I might hunt squirrels with it
I forgot but most of you have helped but what type of gun should I use

As for the legal issues... You need to check with Iowa's Department of Natural Resources to determine whether you can legally hunt with an airgun in Iowa. That's because some states allow people to do this and some don't. Hence why you need to check your state's hunting regulations.(1) You also may need to check and see if you can legally shoot an airgun where you intend to hunt. If you're planning on hunting in your backyard in a city/town/village, the answer is probably not. Though to confirm that you need to check with your local police department. If you're planning on hunting on private property or public lands outside of an incorporated area it's probably not an issue.
As for using the Crosman 760... I would strongly recommend a more powerful and more accurate airgun. The Crosman 760 only puts out about 4-5 ft-lbs of muzzle energy.(2) That's marginal for squirrel, much less other small game like rabbit.(3) And if my Crosman 760 was any indication, the Crosman 760 doesn't produce sufficient accuracy for hunting beyond about 10 yards. Couple those two items together and you have an airgun that's designed for plinking not hunting. I'd recommend at least a Daisy 880 (7.6 ft-lbs muzzle energy) for squirrel and something like a Gamo Big Cat (15 ft-lbs muzzle energy) would be a better choice.

The Crosman 760 shoots BB's at 625fps and pellets at about 600fps.
http://www.pyramydair.com/p/crosman-760-pumpmaster...
With a BB:
625^2 * 5.1 / 450240 = 4.4 ft-lbs of force at the muzzle.
With a pellet:
600^2 * 7.4 / 450240 = 5.9 ft-lbs of force at the muzzle.
It takes about 6 ft-lbs of force to kill a squirrel humanely. This is at the squirrel so with a 760, you are starting with maybe enough force and it will diminish as the pellet travels through the air even a short distance. If you want to hunt squirrels with an air gun, you'll need something more powerful and most likely something a lot more accurate than a Crosman 760.
About the minimum I would use for squirrels is a .177 break barrel airgun rated at 1200fps.
This should give you at least 16 ft-lbs at the muzzle and it should reliably kill squirrels with well placed shots. You'll need to be able to shoot some pretty tight groups at the distance you'll be shooting at.
I couldn't find any regulations regarding airguns for hunting squirrel in Iowa. You may want to contact a local office and ask questions.

You will also probably need to pass a hunting safety course before you can get a hunting license if one is required.

Ive tried squirrells with a gun simalar to that but it was a better more powerfull older model that your gunw as based off of. it did not EVER kill the squirrell just ticked it off and it scolded at me then ran in its hole. Later I got a good pellet gun with a break barrell and shoots 900 fps with hollow points and it can blow a squirrell in 2. I would recomend getting a 50 dollar pellet gun with break barrel and rifling in the barrell. BTW a bb gun is for Feathered animals only. everything else it just ticks it off. and anything over 30 pounds you should use a .22 long rifle or short or even maginum for coyotes and tukeys and deer. (yes 22 is illegal for deer but who cares) the lowest legal caliber for a deer is 22 hornet witch has triple the power of a 22 lr

I agree with the above answers. The Crosman 760 is neither accurate enough(smooth bore) nor powerful enough to make an "effective" small game hunter.

There is a lot of discussion on this airgun forum about hunting small game with air rifles in the state or Iowa, so I would assume it's legal

760 is designed for target shooting, use something like a 2100 classic if you want a good kill. As to laws on hunting with them I am not sure, ask around ranges, gun shops, and hunting clubs.
I don't remember anything mentioned in my hunter's ed class about pellet rifles.
