windows movie maker not playing video?
When I drag a clip onto the timeline in windows movie maker, it only plays the video's audio against a black screen in the preview. Has anyone else had this problem? It's an avi file, so I don't know what's wrong.

You need to download K-lite Codec Pack, This is the link http://bitly.com/1uUrRzQ
if you have any type of codec error, like a missing codec message or if you can't play videos or you are unable to open some type of file (like mp4, avi, wmv, divx, etc...) you need to install K-lite Codec Pack, it's the biggest codec pack and will fix all you codec issue

Your computer is likely lacking the necessary codecs to play the AVI video. Codecs like DivX, Xvid, ffdShow & AC3 are common codecs required to play popular videos. You can simply download a CODEC package that has almost all of today's popular codecs. Install that and you should be able to play almost any video file.
