Kid - traffic accident - Texas how's this work?

Basic story: 17 year old was lost and confused and pulled out causing very minor dented bumper his car, very minor damage to other car, and was ticketed for failure to yield right-of-way. Cop said under 25 in Texas now must show in court to let the judge have a chat with them and kid might loose license. Websites for several Texas cities specify only under 17 must show up in court for a traffic ticket, so think that about coming to the courthouse might be a local law. Parents have instructed 17 year old son to go to court, plead Nollo Contendre, pay fine, and do whatever judge says. As far as I can locate, this should mean approximately $300-400 fine, take defensive driving or loose license, but I am not entirely sure. Parents tried to call attorney but couldn't find anyone in as it is Sunday and just hoping to relieve their minds a bit until they can see one tomorrow. Anyone have further information for a minor fender bender in Texas? We chose Nollo Contendre because although the damage to the other car looked extremely minor and teen's car barely had a slight scratch on the bumper, the spouse of the woman in the other car was heard several times saying don't worry, he would make sure the other car was totaled out and a new car be the result for the woman. We don't think the teen should say "guilty" in case there is a civil case later. Thanks for any serious replies. We realize we will need to see a lawyer for further details before the court day, just wanting to maybe relieve parental minds a bit until then as some places it seems to imply loss of license and other such things might be a result of this. Thanks!

Update:

Sorry, not my child. Child of good friend who called me because I used to do contracts for a public finance firm so she thought that meant I know the law. Insurance has already been contacted and stated they'll be handling payment of the damage to other car. Friend has no problem with what is due being paid to the owner of the other car, just has concern they may try to get more than their fair share. I have explained I don't know anything about traffic law just because I do contracts, but she keeps calling me because she's scared, so I asked for info here. We have already determined surely cop knows whether kid has to show up in court, and kid will show up. According to the directions on several websites for various court houses, there will be more than a fine in Texas because this is someone under 25. None specify exactly what all might the addition be and that's what we want to know mostly. Teen is very scared, too, and we'd just like to prepare teen a little for court.

Update 2:

For anyone reading this, so it turned out in fact the police officer did get it completely incorrectly. Although the officer instructed specifically that 16 year old's have to have parent or guardian with them in court but a 17 year old doesn't have to bring their parents, in fact parent or guardian must accompany 17 and younger. It is even printed on the back of the ticket in really tiny, hard to read print. Parents were told this is state law in Texas. Although there were reports to the contrary on other websites, at least in some cities, there is no further difference between how a teen is treated and how an adult is treated when they receive a ticket.

Teen being "lost and confused" irrelevant.

Under 25 must show up for court, why would the cop lie?

    Pay fine

    Call your insurance company

You/your son is also responsible for the damage to the other car. He is the one who was ticketed.

In Texas, if it is a criminal case then the age of majority is 17.

In civil cases the age of majority is still 18.

There is one street within the north that by way of records has obvious probably the most deaths by way of site visitors coincidence. It is since the street is slender, winding and the drivers cross too speedy. Frankly Moroccans are terrible drivers who forget about any regulations of the street. I uncover bus drivers, town to town, the worst and not using a admire for the opposite automobiles or lives at the street. I see it right here everyday. Edit: Adam Eve....for truly have you ever been to Morocco? There are are few 'essential roads' and that is it. To get to MOST locations the roads don't seem to be massive, large or 'essential'. Just five months in the past an automobile direction used to be eventually completed to Agadir after a long time of a street that used to be a lane and a part large. Driving an additional direction is with ease no longer continually an choice.
