250 Or 500(600) Sports Bike?
Alright, I know that this question has been asked time and time again.
However I'm asking this question based upon MY SITUATION and circumstances.
Alright, I just got done with my Riders Safety Course. And I'm definately interested in getting a sports bike. However my main problem becomes which size?
For starters, my dimensions, I'm 6'2'' 220lbs , im a bigger guy.
Now, Here's what I plan to do with the bike. I live 10 minutes away from my college. I live in Orlando Florida, and the top speed I ever plan to reach on the bike is 80 MPH, because that's as fast as I plan to go, because I do NOT plan on going faster then the speed limit.
To get to school. the speed limits range from 20mph to 45mph, No real hills or mountains. Its just a way to get to school.
I took the Beginner Riding Course and I enjoyed Riding on the 250 Rebel provided by the MSF. And I did really well with that bike.
So now the question is. Do I get the 250? Because Gas mileage is a big concern for me. Or do I get the 600 for the speed?
Typical what gear do you have to be in on a sports bike to reach 45 MPH? And what do you all think?
I had to add this, I'm interested in SPORTSBIKES. And however I am 220 LBS, I do not LOOK as If I'm that big. I look like i'm 195.

A 250 would have no problem hauling you at freeway speeds. That along with your inexperience and fuel concerns makes a 250 an easy choice.
And concerning which gear, it depends on the bike. My gsxr can hit 45 in first gear if you really wanted to but I typically am in 3rd if I shift around 5-6k.

The 250cc rebel is a great bike, until you convince a hot chick to ride on the back. She'll only do that once, and wonder if everything about you is that small.
So, given your girth, don't be shy to try one of the 800cc twins. Suzuki Boulevards are pretty cheap, but there's plenty from each manufacturer. Even an older Kawi Vulcan 750 would be a good one. You can carry a passenger as needed, and a backpack full of books, and not feel like you need to pedal. Something with a backrest is great for affixing the backpack with a bungie cord.

if the cost of fuel is a large concern for you then your real issue may be insurance and cost of bike don't shy from the bigger bike because of speed, it will go as slow as you want it to. go sit on both, close your eyes and see what fits you best. good luck

get the 250 Ninja or Honda CBR250..
600cc sports bikes do more than 45 mph in first gear.. way too much for a learner..
