How do you get a 5 yr old to wear eye glasses, He absolutely refuses to have anything to do with them?

I'm sorry to hear your son won't wear his glasses! the worst thing you can do is bribe him with treats to make him wear them, because as he gets older he will expevt treats all the time for wearing his glasses.

I was very young also 3yrs old when I first got glasses. My parents used to put a band round yhe legs to make me wear them. I have a lazy eye, so I had to wear a patch on it.

My paernts used to say you will see more, wearing your glasses and be like my Grandparents, I had a cartoon eye patch and my parents used to say I was special and my glasses would givee me special vision.

Just stick with it try coax your son to wear them, if you wear glasses, make it fun say look mummy, or daddy are wearing our glasses, copy us. I'm sure your son will have lovely glasses. Compliment him when he is wearing them. You must keep at him, about wearing the glasses.

If yoy still have problems after a week or so then I recommend a visit to the opticians again, speak to them as they will have many kids who refuse to wear glasses.

I've wore glasses over 30,s yrs now. I now have varifocals I'm 36yrs old.

I know how bad it can be to wear glasses when you don't to, just get to wear them around the house and gradually increase it,next until he has the confidence to wear his new glasses.

First question is why he wont' wear them. At 5 it may be difficult for him to explain to you. How bad is his eyesight? If its quite bad then when he puts his glasses on things may look very bright and close and may be frightening for him . When I first got glasses I found the world quite alarming with them and I was 10.

If his eyesight is quite bad then he will gain watching TV / films with them. What about taking him to a favourtie film but sittting quite far back? If he really needs his glasses then he will need them to find out what is going on. Similarly with the TV . Watch something you all enjoy and talk about something on the screen he could only see with his glasses. If he wonders what is happening suggest he could see if he just put his glasses on for 5 minutes.

Make sure his glasses are comfortable. Frames aren't always comfortable if not properly adjusted or too heavy. This is particularly true for a child.

Tell him that they make his vision better and maybe try and reward him with a snack or a small gift or something he wants every time he wears them. Or just lie to him and say if he doesn't wear them he will eventually go blind. Haha. Works for most. (:
