can I afford a $15,000 car?
naturally I'll get a loan and I know I can make the money but I've never had an auto loan before so I'm not sure. I only make $8 an hour but i work 60 hours a week. In january i start a job that makes $15 an hour. Is $15k too hard to afford?
Also I still live at home with my mother so a phone bill is really the only other thing i need to pay as far as bills.

In order to qualif for a loan, a bank or savings and loan looks at your income FIRST. the bank also likes to look at your spending habits, especially savings, what they like to see is your pay check on direct deposit, you pay bills on time through checking account. And people who put 25 percent or SMORE of the pay check in savings every check and never touch it. The ability to save money, pay bills on time, and direct deposit of a paycheck are what banks want to see. So no bounced checks, a credit card secured or unsecured looks good too, just pay the balance every month, do not carry it over. That 15 buck an hour job, can put some savings in your bank account, this looks good to the bank, so hang on, save, save save and you will have a nice ride by the end of the year. Best of luck.

$8 an hour isn't enough to support you and a car loan. Who pays the rent, the utilities, your cell phone and Internet bill? Who pays for your cable TV?
Is 60 hrs a week your normal shift? If it isn't you can't count on that money being there in the future. So lets just say you work a regular 40 hour week at $8 an hour. That's only $320 before taxes. After taxes that's probably around $265-$275 take home. $1100 is the estimated monthly income.
Lenders want your car payment to be 20% of your take home pay. 20% of $1100 is $220. So you can't spend more than $220 a month on your car loan.
If you borrow $15,000 at a reasonable 5.9% interest rate for 4 years your payment would be $350. You are $130 over budget. even if you stretched that used car loan to 5 years (which is the wrong thing to do) you're at $290 a month. Still almost $75 over budget.
Realistically you should be looking in the $10K or under range, not $15k. You can't afford a $15,000 car.

$15000 loan
6% for 60 month (This interest is on the high side..If your credit isn't bad, you should get cheaper rate.)
Payment amount $289.99
Don't forget about insurance payments also,

You very likely wont be approved without a strong cosigner or very large down payment.

i think you can afford a car, just budget the things you buy, like grocery shopping etc.
