Poll: How mant of you believe that only the asker should be permitted to report an answer?

I have had answers reported and deleted that were chosen as the best answer by the asker. Do you also believe that there should be a time limit to report questions and answers? Should YA be required to automatically disclose the screen names of reporters?

*Not* a good idea. Frequently the asker does not regularly check on the answers. I, for example, only check answer 2 or 3 times a day when I have asked a question.

I only report answers that are pornographic or virulently racist.. How long would such answers appear beneath my questions if only the asker could report such content?

Perhaps instead a "violation" should be sent to those whose reports are overruled That would make the "report monkeys" hesitate to report legitimate questions. I'm amazed at how often my reasonable, justifying answer to a very mildly abrasive question is deleted before I can deliver it and thus correct the asker's mistaken opinion. One would think that when someone asks an uncomplimentary question that it would be a great opportunity to "set the world straight" rather than an opportunity to silence any dissenting opinion.

agreed but Yahoo will not listen to us but it is only fair to know who it was because we lose good questions from trolls reporting out questions and rarely if ever they are restored to the board it is not fair and it is foolish to say on the violation form if you believe you were wrongly reported to fight the violation it does no good and they pass over it as if you never wrote to them. It is a major frustration.

I rarely fight them because it does nothing and they just send out the emails saying that the question was in violation and it is a vicious circle of foolishness trying to get it reinstated.

Well no, as that way commercial spam and death threats would stay up. They just post replies to their own questions.

However, I would have NO objection to reporters' identities being made known every time they report.

I also feel a reason MUST be given for a report, so that the appealer has a chance to argue the appeal, rather than it being removed without any reason given.

BTW there's a petition here for reforming the report rules:

  • How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.
  • I have had answers too that were best answer, but reported. I have appealed all of them with the suggestion that Yahoo gives violations to the reporter. They just dont want anything exposed of their religion. It's so clear.

I think that if someone sees an answer the violates the rules, even if it's the asker's chosen answer, they should be able to report it. Of course YA then auto deletes it without even looking into it

It would be an improvement but the best improvement of all would be to remove the report feature entirely.

    No reporting No censorship.

The only censorship would be the censorship an individual imposes on himself and no one else, by not reading an answer or question.

I agree if they have a LEGITIMATE reason. Not because the answerer just has a different opinion than the asker.

I think Yahoo should be more responsive to appeals, and there ought to be some kind of demerit or loss for reporting answers just because they evoke thought, which is an unpleasant emotional response for some.

    I don't.

As for "reform," what I think Y!A should do is *not* automatically delete a question/response if it's reported by two people. That's what happens now, and it's ridiculous.

    Peace.
