As a freshman in college, will I be denied financial aid if I hav a car?

My mother heard from somewhere that if I have a car in my freshman year of college they won't give me financial aid. My initial response was that this was a load of crap and she's just finding an excuse to not allow me to get my license or car. I want to look into it anyways so can someone please tell me if this is true???

"just finding an excuse to not allow me to get my license or car." .... and that's just about it. If you applied for FAFSA or private loan, they do not base any information regarding possession of a vehicle. Finaid bases information on whether you're independent or dependent. Usually the case is that the student is dependent. Then they base financial need on your parents combined income etc.

Your mother is either extremely misinformed or just making excuses, as you suspect. Some colleges don't allow freshmen to bring a car to campus, but that's a different issue from financial aid. Financial aid is based on how much money your parents made in the previous year.

your mom is an idiot and trying to manipulate you. You owning or not owning a car or driving a car has nothing to to with you getting aid. Remember, college students are ADULTS and are treated as such. Maybe you should remind your mom of this. LOL Also be aware she has NO business getting any of your information about college (your fin aid amounts, your schedule, your grades, your transcripts) or even your enrollment information.

Do not allow her to treat you like and child and she won't. The college won't either. Do not give her your password information, your email information and no not allow her to access your schools information online. I would also recommend you getting a PO Box at your school or the town which you are going to college.

Its adult time, the best time in the world!

I've never heard of it. Go online and check out the available grants and financial aid. they will also tell you what the requirements are. Check out "Pell Grants" (it may be misspelled).
