Please help with this Calculus dilemma?

Why can ln([e^x] + xe^ -x) be changed to ln( [e^x] (1+x))?

Please explain in little terms? Im pretty dumb.

    It cant - you something wrong in the problem.

    just take x=1. The left side is ln(e + 1* (1/e)) = 1.1269.

    The right side is ln(e * (1+1))= 1.6931.

    They arent the same.
