Transferring Data From Laptop To Another?

I have a Compaq Microsoft laptop and I want to transfer the data from this one to another. But without the long process of using a USB. There is also the fact I have certain programs that were bought and I'm afraid if I use a USB I won't keep the programs on the new laptop. My question is, is there a place I can go to transfer everything from one laptop to another?

It really depends on whether your old and new laptops use the same operating system e.g. if your old laptop uses windows XP and your new laptop Windows 7, you probably should just copy your pictures, videos and my docs folder contents with your USB stick. If they both use the same version of windows, you could probably get someone to clone your hard drive for you. Cloning your hard drive would make a like-for-like copy of everything from your old laptop's hard drive to your new laptop's hard drive (including your operating system)

if you don't want to clone your hard drive, you'll need to re-install all your programs on your new laptop and copy your data (pictures, videos, documents etc) onto the new laptop's relevant libraries with your USB stick. You can export your 'favourites' from your browser into a file which you can then import into the browser on your new laptop.

You could also just swap the hard drives in your laptops, but I'd guess your old laptop's hard drive is smaller and more worn so this isn't recommended.

You might want to take your laptops into a local independent PC shop and tell them what you want to do - it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours for someone to do this for you.
