How many hours a day do you home school your Kindergartener?
My daughter missed our Kindergarten cut off by a few days, but she IS ready. She is starting to read and wants to learn to read more. She also is interested in the world(other countries) and science. So I wanted to home school her this year and possibly next year. She is in a preschool during the day so I don't want to do too many hours this year and next year I'll have her stay with my mom and school her when I get home. What I'm asking is an hour a day enough for a Kinder? It's all her focus is now and it's all it takes for her to learn a new concept. She is absolutely bored at Preschool cause she's above what they are doing. She knows her letters, writes them, is spelling and writing words, is adding and subtracting. So just because the government says she's not ready she is. I think its a shame some kids are pushed till they crack and others are kept back in the public schools which is why I'd rather home school. So is an hour a day enough?
She CAN sit longer, but she goes to Preschool all day. I don't take the cut off date personally I just think a Aug 29th cut off date is crap. In CA it was Nov 1st. The fact that she is reading when most the kids in my neighborhood that are going into first grade aren't yet shows me she's ready. When she doesn't go to preschool and is just with me she can do 3 hours easily, but after she's been in preschool all day thats unrealistic. The only reason I'm doing it this year is because she's bored. Her Preschool goes over shapes, colors, and letters. She knows those things already. So I wanted to add more at home.

If an hour is her focus then an hour is the perfect amount of time. Homeschooling is all about flexibility and meeting the needs of your kiddo. If one day is "only" 45 minutes, then that is fine too. Best advice is to follow her lead and not worry about the clock especially if you don't have to report to your school district.

An hour per day should be more than enough if she's in preschool, because when you're working with an individual you don't have to worry about the time spent managing a classroom and you don't have as many distractions. She's getting enough other vital activities at preschool I assume. What they need more at that age is interaction and experiences and enriching activities... light on the academics.
As for the government, they're not saying your daugther isn't ready... they're saying they have a cut-off dated. The date of her birth determined that she missed it, not the government. There are too many people to cater to individuals. That's not holding her back; try not to take it so personally.

Then she's not ready, is she?
I'd stop worrying about her academic level. It's things like her concentration she needs to improve before she can cope with more formal school.
