How often to change my oil?
I keep reading that recommendations and stickers from oil-change places to change your oil every 3 months or 3000 miles are mainly just a tactic to sell you more oil changes, and that you don't need to change it that often. But if my vehicle owner's manual says to change oil every 3000 miles, do I need to change it every 3000 miles?

You dont have to chage your oil every 3,000 miles anymore with todays modern oil you can go safely 5,000miles the 3,000 mile thing is based on the old engine oil quality what we have now is of a higher quality than we had 30yrs ago. you can also just check your oil every week and when it starts to look like it needs to be changed then you can do it, with this method you can get alot of miles out of your oil safely also you just have to take the time to check it every so often.

all the moving parts in your engine are metal in very close contact.they need a thin layer of oil to slip by each other without damage.oil breaks down in time from extreme heat & cold plus it collects many impurities.to keep your engine young its a must to change the oil & filter every 3000 miles/5000 km.do this & 20 years from now your cars engine will be running better than you.have fun with your machine but be careful!

Synthetic oil gets changed LESS often. Every 5000 miles.

It cost like 35 bucks at most to have your oil changed, and yeah it should be done every 3000 miles, lots of other problems get noticed when you get your oil changed. Why do people always think they are getting ripped off?

Yep. Either that or this http://www.google.com/imgres?q=Engine+sludge&hl=en... Well, that's probably an exaggeration....this guy probably never changed his oil...he just kept adding it.

"Year & Mileage?" A Good Synthetic-Blend would (Depending on conditions) Go 6,000 or 5 Months Which Ever Comes First.

If your manual says 3000mi , then it must be an old car.
Newer cars, like less than 20yrs old, need changes just 7500-13000mi.
