July or April in Orlando?

We have been to orlando once (this year, 15th-29th of July) and are currently starting to plan our next trip. The kids were never that bothered about going but we took them this year and now they want to go again (they are 13&18) Our 18 year old is starting uni this year which now makes it a lot more difficult to go. We wanted to go in october as it is cooler (but still warm) and there is a lot less chance of rain (not that we had a problem, the week we were in orlando there was only 1 thunderstorm while we were driving from the airport to the villa) but obviously we cant now she is at uni. So that leaves a month around christmas, a month around april and then anytime between mid June and mid September. The problem with Christmas is we thought it might be quite busy and we weren't sure about the water parks being open (our 13 year olds favourite part of the hol). The problem with April is obviously 'spring break' and the problem with July/august was my husband and eldest daughter thought it was just to hot (it got to 39 degrees at one point!) So my question is, how much more crowded is April compared to July? Is it quite a bad idea going in April and should i just persuade the hubby and daughter to try July again? Another thing, Are the water parks likely to be closed due to cold weather in early January? (that's what i read) and when do they shut for annual maintenance? Thank you for reading this and could you please just give me as much information as possible, Thanks in advance :)!

Extra info:

We will be in Orlando for 10 days instead of 7 this time

We are from the UK

20 is hot for us!

We dont want to take our 13 yo daughter out of school for much time (less than a week) She has a week off in october, 3 weeks at christmas, 1 in feb, 2 in april, 1 in may and 6 in july/august.

If you can do April, do April. It will be less crowded and more enjoyable. Plus the weather is very nice!

For excellent climate maps of Orlando, go here. Select "April" in the menu. Enjoy!

First of all: The theme parks Disney, Universal and Sea World never close for the winter. The water parks will be open. Disney has as you know two water parks - They will close one and refurbish the other Aquatica and Discovery cove will be open - The water parks keep the water at around 32C (some types of dolphins like it cooler- others do not). For many reasons the local schools have staggered springs break over an almost two month period. The park crowds do not come close to July except for Easter Week. It might be a bit different this year as Legoland Florida will open next month. and I understand that they have sold a great many tours, especially from the UK. The new park has taken over the old Cypress Gardens (about 45 -60 minutes from Disney). BTW - If you enjoy watching BIG animals in the water, try visiting Blue Springs or Cristal River. Blue Springs parks is just off the Interstate 4 - heading towards Daytona - About a one hour drive from Disney. Cristal River is in the Tampa area. These are both state parks and the admission is very small. The manatees (sometimes called Sea Cows) are very intelligent animals and they do not like the cold winter time ocean or gulf waters. In the summer they stay in the sea. Then when the water gets colder they come to the parks and bring the whole family. I have seen dozens at Blue Springs in January. I understand that at Cristal River, you are allowed to swim with the manatees. They are perfectly gentle and totally harmless.

There are a lot of water parks in Orlando, including two that are on Disney property. Sea World has one, but I've never been there...yet. Right next to Sea World is Discovery Cove. You can swim with Dolphins there!

There are also a lot of miniature golf places. Disney has two.

In Downtown Disney (West side) there's Disney Quest. That's an indoor Virtual amusement park.

You can go out to Cocoa Beach. That's about an hour away. Of course, maybe it doesn't take that long. My husband got lost!

    NASA is out there too.

Clearwater Beach is on the Gulf side and it's farther. It takes about 90 minutes, could be longer if you hit a lot of traffic in Tampa.

There's so much more... Maybe get a vacation book on Orlando.

From my own experience in Florida, I would say April is nice. Though there will be the expected Spring Break hooligans about, the weather will be ideal, the parks should be open and the atmosphere will be festive. Just one question, though. When I went to the UK a few years back all the people there who had been to the states had only gone to Florida, California, or Vegas. These are not the best (or most culturally interesting) parts of our country. Why not, at some future date, take tour through Washington, DC, Manhattan, Boston, or any New England areas? Sorry to intrude, but I've always wondered about this.

April would be nice. But next year Easter falls in April, I believe, so the park would be very busy then.

Christmas is the busiest time of the year at WDW. If you can go a couple of weeks before, it would be very quiet then, but the Christmas decorations would be up.

February might be good, except for "President's Week", when some schools have the weeks off.

The "unofficial" WDW guide by Birnbaum has info on what times of the year are busy and not.

The least busy time at Disney is November to the 2 wks before Christmas. Christmas, other holiday weekends and Spring break are all really busy times, and summer is just so hot in Florida. From the times you listed, I would recommend either February or May.
