Downshifting at high rpm's on my civic si?
Well i have a 2002 civic si, and when i pass on the freeway or need the boost, i usually downshift to pick up faster.
And today to see whats up, i down shifted from 2nd to 1st and the rpm's went up high, and almost redlined.
I dont punch it all the time, im just worried if doing this to my car shortens the life like crazy, becuase my car is my love and i want it to last as long as i can.
Ps, since is an si, is it ok to redline? people tell me so but im just worried about killing the life, thanks

how fast were you going? I dont suggest downshifting from 2nd gear to 1st gear unless you're almost to a complete stop or about 10mph. You can push your car to Redline 6800RPM all day. Downshifting is fine. Knowing when to downshift and the proper gear to shift in is what is important. Correct me if i'm wrong but most vehicle does not allow you to switch from 2nd to 1st if you're going fast. if your going 65-70mph on the highway downshift to 3rd. if you're going 40mph downshift to 2nd. There is no reason why you should be downshifting from 2nd to 1st with the car traveling.
