Shouldn't gender dysphoria be considered a mental disorder as body integrity identity disorder?
People with Body Integrity Identity disorder believe they should have a limb amputated as they believe this will make them happier or being an amputee is what they truly are inside. This however is considered a mental disorder, but Gender Dysphoria where they believe they were born the wrong gender is not considered a mental disorder.
How is one really different from the other in terms of identity crisis? Shouldn't both treated as a mental disorder? Why is one considered a mental disorder while the other is not? Is this just a case of political correctness?
How is gender dysphoria harmless when it also includes surgery to remove breasts, add breasts, remove genitalia and etc? Both involve some kind of surgery to drastically change your appearance.
OK, so if it is okay to have gender reassignment surgery why then stop the person who says they wish to be an amputee. what is the difference? If you give the choice to one why not to all?

God made them male and female. To go against the will of God in rebellion is sin. Any one who is born of one gender but desires in their heart to be the opposite gender (and completes a surgical procedure) is rebelling against how God created them and is in sin.

Of course. But since since the damage of letting an anorexic die, or a person with a body limb dysphoria rendered a disabled amputee is obvious, but any potential damage secondary to gender reassignment surgery is psychological, not obviously physical, the medical and psychiatric ethics of sexual reassignment surgery as a solution to a gender dysphoria are not as clear. They are a matter of debate. When research hospitals found no essential improvement in the psychology of post op transsexuals over pre op transgenders and their ethics committees demanded the surgeries stop in their hospitals. The operations were not condemned, because they did not hurt anyone. They just didn't result in an obvious mental or emotional improvement enough to warrant the potential medical complications and reliance on meications (hormones) for the rest of a person's life. That was then and is now considered a personal decision by the individual who can now turn to the private medical sector.
By 1980 there was left a research vacuum now filled with opinion based debates. And a review of the subject on the net, today, finds it a very emotionally charged and heated debate often consisting of the trading of ignornace, vulgar sarcasms and insults from both sides of the issue. Until this heat is replaced by some light, the truth of the issue will have to wait.
Pardon me for taking so long to state, in my opinion, there appears to be no real current agreed upon answer to your question. In the 1960's to late 1970's considered myself and was reviewed as a candidate as a transgender. But in therapy with several gifted clinicians I have found I was wrong and have lived a rewarding life as a homosexual, graciously supported by family, friends and church, I would not exchange for the life of anyone else I know. [But then I was born and lived my entire 63 years in The San Francisco bay Area!]
Why can't we just let people make their own decisions?
I have only one gripe beyond your questions, but somewhat related to this subject
In the mean time, unless someone comes up with a better solution, THE VERBAL ABUSE OR PHYSICAL ATTACK OF ANY PERSON FOR BEING TRANSGENDER SHOULD BE TREATED AS A SERIOUS SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES HATE CRIME, WITH SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT I PERSONALLY FIND, AS A HOMOSEXUAL CHRISTIAN, THAT THOSE THAT ENGAGE IN THE INTENTIONAL IGNORANT, PERVERTED AND ABUSIVE OUT OF HISTORICAL CONTEXT MISINTERPRETATION OF THE SCRIPTURES TO PROMOTE PAIN, SUFFERING, VIOLENCE AND HATE OF TRANSGENDERS [IN PARTICULAR] IS THE MOST DANGEROUS UNTREATED MENTAL ILLNESS IN OUR SOCIETY TODAY...

Gender dysphoria is only a crisis to those who cannot accept it. Those who feel threatened by gender dysphoria are the ones with a mental disorder - because they frequently harm people with gender dysphoria.
Mental disorders are harmful.
Gender dysphoria is not harmful to the individual, or wider society. It only becomes harmful when society tries to force people to conform to the gender roles that barbaric societies consider acceptable.
People who have gender reassignment surgery are not harming themselves - they go to a surgeon to get it done. It's a fairly minor and routine operation these days. Women have breast surgery all the time - are you trying to say that women who want larger breasts have a mental disease?!?! Is the desire to have a crooked nose straightened a mental disorder? Is having your teeth pulled a mental disorder?

Psychiatric associations around the world removed homosexuality from their list of mental disorders from about 45 years ago and things like so called gender dysphoria somewhat later. Now there are probably extensively argued papers from that time, before it and after it thrashing the idea out till it bored almost everyone to tears. If you want to argue otherwise, I strongly suggest you go find these papers and read them to find out why they did it.
I am not interested in your arguments. Take them up with psychiatrists or at least the medical profession. They will probably have your guts for garters before you know where you are.

Okay, then add all forms of vain plastic surgery to the list...slippery slope man, you start with one, you must do all...
In our vain society, if what ever insane thing you are doing to your body makes it more attractive to somebody, we tend to applaud that action...no matter the impact on your over all health.
You'd do better to attack the sin of vanity than those who are gender confused.
PS: you brought up the point gender reassignment surgery drastically alters appearance.
It's a choice people have now a days. Get over it. No body is going to make you convert to the opposite sex.

Your question actually should be to surgeons. Their oath binds them to do no harm. I'm not a surgeon. I could not tell you what harm is done or not done by amputation nor by gender reassignment.
Lay people could not properly, medically answer this question.

nah, it's a case of some doctor who wasn't all that good at real surgery seeing a niche.
I always wondered why it's bad to do drugs but heroic to risk your life climbing mountains (not to mention extremely expensive when they have to go and rescue those morons.)

Read Genesis 3. We are the result of a fallen, cursed and sinful world. We live in physically degenerated and decaying bodies and are spiritually dead in our sin and separated from God. What is important and dare I say essential is how these people are spiritually. Are they the saved children of God? Everything else is secondary, and can be addressed by the individual and God after he or she is secure in their eternal salvation. After all, if God tells us that his grace alone is sufficient for us, it must be true(2 Corinthians 12:9).

It is a mental disorder. It was always considered a mental disorder but this was changed because of political pressure, and not from scientific study. Politics makes for bad science.

harmless action + happiness = not a very big disorder
