What metal should I go with?
We have medium oak kitchen cabinets they are almost an orange, my husband will not allow me to paint them and they are in fairly good shape so I don't really want to. We replaced our appliances with Stainless steel with black accents. I would like to replace the pulls on the cabinets and was thinking a steel similar in appearance to the appliances would be best but I don't wan to be too matchy match.
Currently they are brass and wood pulls. I had replaced the front entry light fixture with an antiqued bronze fixture and I love the look of it. Now our Ceiling fan has died and we will need to replace it. I've been looking and there are quite a few choices.
White (No thanks that wouldn't match anything),
Black (possible I guess)
Bright brass (like it is already, I'm leaning no, but my husband would probably like that just fine)
steel or chrome or brushed nickel (so it would match more with the appliances)
bronze/ cocoa etc..(my favorite but don't know if it would go with the appliances)
Currently our walls are a very neutral tan with a dark green almost moss colored accent wall.
Eventually I'd like to replace our over the table chandelier as well but until I decide on what type of metal I can't buy anything and I use the fan almost every day so I really need some help with knowing what to do. The chandelier we have right now is brass with quite a few rectangle pieces of clear/bluish glass that hang in two rows around the center lights.
As far as style goes it's not contemporary probably more traditional without the overly decorative accents.
Also another issue with our ceiling fan is it's place over the stairs which is above the stairs for our bi level so basically two stories high but above stairs so even replacing it will be difficult. And if the bulbs burn out quickly they won't be replaced for a long time since it's so hard to get at the fixture.
Another addition is with our lovely orange oak, which is also on the railing and spindles around the stairs which the fan sits above what type of blade should I get, currently it is white with bright brass and white bell shaped cups and it's almost impossible to clean or switch directions for winter or summer.
Any suggestions?
oh and the ceiling fan, stairs and spindles are all open to the kitchen and living room it's one large open area. Just the front door light fixture is not exactly in sight from the living room but sitting at the kitchen table you can see that it is the bronze or antiqued bronze.

I would definitely go with silver (chrome or brushed nickel) for ALL metal including the ceiling fan. Because all these rooms can be seen from one another continuity of color or accent is important. You can choose a traditional style of fan with a silver finish. Because access is a problem choose down facing lamp holders that won't collect bugs. And, use compact florescent bulbs; they last for years. I would just set the ceiling fan to blow downward, and not worry with it. I have never found reason to switch mine.

Even though the kitchen is open to your living area, you can still use different metal finishes in each location. As you already suggested, you do not have to go with a matchy matchy style, which is the most common mistake that DIY or self proclaimed decorators make.
I would recommend brushed nickel hardware in the kitchen to match the appliances, but since your decor is not contemporary, you may want to go with a bronze finish of some sort for your ceiling fan and dining room chandeliers.
Brushed nickel or stainless steel is generally considered more contemporary with lighting and ceiling fans, although there are some "retro" styles that come in these finishes. You will find a larger selection of traditional style ceiling fans and lighting in bronze tones, and since it seems to be your preference, then I would go with it in the other rooms.
As far as the ceiling fan goes, consider a fan that comes with a wall control or remote control (or both). If you already have a light switch at the top and bottom of the staircase that operates the power to your fan, you can replace these with specialized controls that allow you to change the fan speeds, airflow direction and dim the lights from both locations.
If you do not have wall switches already wired to the fan, then you can buy a fan with remote controls that can be mounted to the wall without having to run any wires.
The resource below actually sells both ceiling fans and lighting and, if you call them, they can walk you through various options and help you select the perfect ceiling fans and lighting for your home.
You can also email me pictures of your home directly and I will be happy to offer some suggestions (see resource below for email address).
