  • What metal should I go with?

We have medium oak kitchen cabinets they are almost an orange, my husband will not allow me to paint them and they are in fairly good shape so I don't really want to. We replaced our appliances with Stainless steel with black accents. I would like to replace the pulls on the cabinets and was thinking a steel similar in appearance to the appliances would be best but I don't wan to be too matchy match.

Currently they are brass and wood pulls. I had replaced the front entry light fixture with an antiqued bronze fixture and I love the look of it. Now our Ceiling fan has died and we will need to replace it. I've been looking and there are quite a few choices.

White (No thanks that wouldn't match anything),

    Black (possible I guess)

Bright brass (like it is already, I'm leaning no, but my husband would probably like that just fine)

steel or chrome or brushed nickel (so it would match more with the appliances)

bronze/ cocoa etc..(my favorite but don't know if it would go with the appliances)

Currently our walls are a very neutral tan with a dark green almost moss colored accent wall.

Eventually I'd like to replace our over the table chandelier as well but until I decide on what type of metal I can't buy anything and I use the fan almost every day so I really need some help with knowing what to do. The chandelier we have right now is brass with quite a few rectangle pieces of clear/bluish glass that hang in two rows around the center lights.

As far as style goes it's not contemporary probably more traditional without the overly decorative accents.

Also another issue with our ceiling fan is it's place over the stairs which is above the stairs for our bi level so basically two stories high but above stairs so even replacing it will be difficult. And if the bulbs burn out quickly they won't be replaced for a long time since it's so hard to get at the fixture.

Another addition is with our lovely orange oak, which is also on the railing and spindles around the stairs which the fan sits above what type of blade should I get, currently it is white with bright brass and white bell shaped cups and it's almost impossible to clean or switch directions for winter or summer.

    Any suggestions?

  • What is your opinion on allowing dogs to chew on Raw hide bones etc.?

I have two small dogs, one a maltese/shih-tzu and one a Pomeranian. Both are about 2 years old. I have given them raw hide to chew but it was a medium sized ring that lasted my maltese months of chewing. I bought a bag of the small raw hide bones and found the dogs pigged them down in no time at all.

Why I'm asking is I was looking at getting my Pom a huge rawhide tube like thing made for big dogs. She chews alot so I figured it would last her forever and would be way to large for her to choke on (the small ones made me very nervous) And a lady came up and advised me not to give raw hide to my dogs because it will swell up and hurt their stomaches.

Right now they get one of the teenie greenies a day (both dogs are under 10lb's) and I have some ceasar treats that they like. But my pom really loves to chew (she is taking it out on my kids toys and my books and pretty much everything she can stick in her mouth) I don't want her to get fat so I don't want to give her a lot of milk bones or anything like that. Would a soup bone that hasn't been cooked be better?

What would you give your dogs to chew that they would like and wouldn't hurt them. We bought a Kong for my Maltese and she never warmed up to it, but then she wasn't a chewer either.

    Any suggestions?

  • strange dog behaviour?

I have two female dogs, both are about 2 years old and spayed. I look after kids during the day and one of my kids got a puppy a few months ago. I told Mom she could bring the puppy some day for a play date when she brings her son. so they could socialize him before it's too late. Today she brought him, he is 7 months old.

This is the oddest dog I have ever seen. He is constantly trying to mount my girls, And yeah he is a boy and yeah he isn't fixed but he won't do anything else, I watch him and he has a very aggressive looking head and shoulder when he approaches them. They don't like him at all and snap, growl show teeth and move away. He won't stop bothering them, seriously I had to put him in his kennel so my girls could just relax for a few minutes. I'm used to the play bowing and that sort of thing but he doesn't do that just tries to sniff their bottoms and mount.

When he is walking around he is very friendly and social, (like I said way too social) tail wagging and even good with the kids. I figured I'd put the leash on him to keep him from mounting the girls and he is a totally different dog, tail tucked between his legs, laying at my feet. Very withdrawn and I would say scared.

My girls never act like this, not the mounting or the snapping or the growling, and I get that this is their first visit but he is just a puppy, a weird one but a puppy none the less. My girls the minute I get the leash they are not excited but very happy and tails wagging and they are happy, no other word for it but happy. Not a bit of cowering even though one of my girls knows that boots are soon to come and doesn't like them but even then she doesn't cower.

So I probably won't do this again if it was summer I might consider it but it's -20 and too cold to go out for a walk with the dogs AND the kids to get his energy down.

So my question is how should I be handling this, do I leave him to the mounting? Let my girls snap? I've been allowing it to a certain point and then I just step in between them and don't let him close to them, just moving so he can't approach them. I've been doing the psst sounds when he gets really aggressive shoulders and tapping him on his neck.

All three dogs are less than 10 pounds, my one is 10, the other is 7 and he might be 10lb's soaking wet but that's it.

And should I put a leash on him even though he is scared? I'm not dragging him with it, just leaving it hang loose so he doesn't feel pressured.

    Any suggestions.

    Thanks

  • how should I introduce a new dog to my old dog?

I have a spayed female 2 1/2 year old Maltese/shi-tzu already, she is a wonderful dog, gentle, loves kids, full of energy, but I do feel that she needs a friend. She tries to play with our cats and they want nothing to do with her and then she tries to play with me, and while I can play with her sometimes I can't spend all day throwing her stuffy or playing tug and she loves to rough house with me (grabbing my socks and pant legs or if I'm laying on the floor mouthing my hair) ONLY with me she is so good with the kids, and they are very gentle with her.

She is very shy around other dogs and while we have socialized her with some animals, most were quite a bit larger and the one was stupid (not aggressive just clueless) and kept trying to stand practically on top of her. Other dogs are good they sniff and are friendly and while she has never bit or snapped at another dog she does have poor dog manners when on the leash, lots of barking and whining and jumping but when not on the leash she just stays really close to me or tries to hop onto my lap or slinks into the corner to hide from them and pretty much ignores the other dogs who come near. Her tail is almost completely tucked under her belly then.

I took her to an obedience course and the instructor said she needs to spend more time with dogs and less with children, with a dayhome I have kids all day every day so the only way to get her more time with dogs is to get another one. Our last dog was killed by a Large dog so I personally am not comfortable around large dogs so it's small dogs or bust.

I just spoke to a lady who has a 2 year old female Pom (not altered but will be shortly after I get her) who is also very good mannered, loves kids, doesn't mind cats, playfull. she is house trained and very loving but can be shy around other dogs. The dog sounds like she would be a perfect fit for my family. And I'm thinking that since both are a bit shy this could be good or it could be bad.

So how can I introduce these two girls so they become best friends?

  • my dog likes to eat cat food will that make her sick?

My dog is a shi-tzu / Maltese, We have two cats, who were quite fat when we got them, we have been feeding them IAMS indoor cat formula hairball. Our dog prefers the cat foods and the cats prefer the dog food. The dog food we feed her is the IAMS small breed food mixed with the cesar small dog food. Although she does get to eat alot of table scraps (just the left over meat like hamburger/chicken/ham/turkey etc...)

Will eating the wrong food hurt her in the long run? It doesn't seem to make a difference with her BM's. And well I guess the same thing for the cats? They have lost weight since we got them, which I think is completely because of the food switch plus they are getting a lot more exercise than they were before.

Our dog seems extremely healthy and is the perfect weight for her size, but I do wonder about them eating each others food.

  • How can I convince a family member to file for Bankrupcy?

I have a family member, she is older and owes a lot of money to credit card companies. I'm sure it is in the upper 5 digits. I worry about her ability to pay her bills, and she just lost her job, Honestly the only way I can see her being able to afford to keep her apartment is to file for bankruptcy. She doesn't own a lot of luxuries, she has a laptop, and a 13" tv and a car that is already 10 years old.

Every time I have mentioned it she gets very upset, She wants to pay off the bills but her circumstances just keep getting worse, she is paying them off slowly but the interest is killing her.

She is terrified she will lose everything if she files. And that everyone will know, and that she won't be able to get a job because of it. And that friends and family will find out and look down on her.

We are in Canada, is there a credit company that is actually able to help, she contacted one a few years ago but because she didn't own a home she was out of luck.

  • Are there any particular brands when purchasing laptops to avoid or to consider?

I am on a limited budget, extremely limited, and I'm looking online at what is available. Basically I'm hoping to spend less than 800$. Which I know is not alot but really all I want it for is writing up minutes for my vollunteer board position, surfing, some online accounting and some word processing and spreadsheets.

I have been told to avoid Acer but then someone else said it was a good brand.

    Acer?

    Asus?

    Dell?

    Toshiba?

    HP?

    Compaq?

    Emachine?

    Sony?

Any particular brand to avoid and any particular brand that I should look into?

  • What is considered proper street parking etiquette?

We have a driveway in the front of our house that leads to our double car garage. My husband I both park in the garage and our teenage son parks on the street in front of the house.

We have neighbours who park in front of our house occasionally which leaves my son nowhere to park other than in our driveway which gets frustrating if one of us have to leave, he then has to move his truck.

Is parking in front of someone else's home poor etiquette? or am I just being too sensitive? We have told our son that if someone is parked in front of our house to park on the driveway pad because otherwise he is taking up some other houses street parking.

If it is occasional guests, I don't' mind but it is the girlfriend of our neighbour and she is a constant visitor. She leaves the space in front of their house clear so that the family can park in front of their home but parks her car in front of my home, taking my son's parking spot.

  • Is it broken?

My jvc flatscreen iart tv was working this morning but when we went to turn it on this afternoon the sound works fine but the picture is completely black with a strip of color right in the middle. The channels will change and the color of the channels change but all there is the very narrow strip of color in the middle. You really can't see what is showing just that the color is changing for the different shows.

Is it a goner and my husband gets to go shopping for a new one or is there hope for it?

    Thank you

  • What is the name of the outdoor waterslide in Edmonton Alberta?

I know it is located close to stoney plain.

It had closed for a season for repairs but I was told it is open again. There are at least 4 or 5 slides with one smaller slide and a kiddy pool.
