Going from dark red to dark ash blonde?

Currently I have dyed dark red hair and I would like to start the process of going back to my natural hair colour which is like a medium ash blonde. The thing is, I'm not sure how to go about doing that. Should I bleach my hair or use a highlighter and then dye my hair dark ash blonde? I can't afford to get it done at a salon.

I don't fancy the idea of cutting my hair either and just letting the colour grow out, because in past experience, my hair turns an ugly ginger like colour when I grow it out and I really don't like the way it looks.

I would like to go a dark ash blonde and then just leave my hair alone and let my natural hair colour eventually grow back. But I don't want to go a brassy, strawberry colour. How can I avoid that? Any recommendations on what products I should use?

Please don't say "Go to the salon to get it done".

Okay so this probably isn't the solution you want but just to throw it in there, why not try a training salon?

For the same price it will cost for you to buy all the products to bleach and then re-dye it you can go to one and get it done "professionally". Although the hairdressers are still learning (hence 'training') they have to be a certain standard to be allowed to dye/cut/whatever else hair and there are normally tutors checking what they do, who if the very worst happens will fix for free any bad hair problems.

I'm from England (just one example here) but in a training salon it costs under/around £20 to have it dyed compared to a generic salon which can cost in the hundreds (I'm not even joking :|)

Anyways, hope it goes well for you whatever you decide to do! :)

im not sure if what i say will work because red hair is really hard to get rid of but you can try. use a hair color remover before any bleaching or anything and i recommend using ion color corrector that can be found at a supply store because that one is known to remove the color without having a bleach formula like others are known to have. you might have to do this twice. if you bleach your hair when it is colored red it will just go pink and it will not leave the hair even if you bleach it more then once. from there depending what hair color you have under your dyed dark red hair if its darker than dark blonde you will need to bleach, ive also used an ash color on my natural hair which is a redish brown and it did not go ash so if you have many natural red tones you might need to bleach your hair to get rid of the orange and red tones so you can get the ash blonde, thats what i had to do. i recommend you do a strand test after the color remover to make sure you get the results you want. and dont rush into it if your unsure do research first, thats the worst you can do is rush it that is when mistakes are made. hope this helped.

to be honest i was exactly like you but the amount it cost it would have been easier to go to a salon and not far off the price

I think blonde hair is actually sexiest, but brown hair can become really sexy too. Black hair is never sexy. It's just really uninteresting and boring and flatters few constitution. Blonde hair looks best with blue eyes.

a blonde female stands out more in the masses than a brunette, especially if the lady has long hair
