Are these loose spark plugs? What could be wrong with my car?

I have a 96 Sunfire that until recently, has been running just fine. Lately though, more and more, it won't turn over on the first few tries. When it does, it makes odd noises- almost like a cooing noise? That's the best way I can describe it. Overall, it just sounds like it's running and idling a little rough, when it wasn't at all before. Another thing it's been doing is when I first start driving it and I accelerate, it seems to hesitate very subtly before mustering the power to get going. It moves, but it just seems like it doesn't have enough power right away.

I'm hoping this is nothing terrible... but I'm not sure. Could this be a case of bad or loose spark plug wires? I've also had instances of my starter CPU coming loose and needing to be plugged back in, but that doesn't really account for the odd noises and such. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My senses point to the need for a new timing chain (or belt). Sunfires are particularly bad for this kind of failure. At least have this theory looked into because if the symptoms are getting worse, then that means its just a matter of time before something crucial fails and you would most likely ending up saying goodbye to the car.

depending on the miles on the car. Has anything been serviced fuel filter / spark plugs and wires / air filter / Has the fuel pump pressure test have been tested? is there check engine light on? Could have a plugged Cat convertor.

I'd start off with getting a tune up. Change the plugs, wires, cap and rotor if its got one. Start off with doing that.
