Any experience with a toddler and C. Diff infection?
My 18 month old got C. Difficile, she was never on antibiotics, but somehow contracted it from the environment. I am terribly worried for her. She is on her 2nd round of Flagyl. She didn't have the diarrhea that bad, mostly just mucousy stools. Her pediatrician said 30% of kids will need a 2nd round of Flagyl to get rid of it. She acts fine and I am also giving her probiotics. I hate reading on the internet because all you hear are horror stories. I just need someone to tell me she will get over this and be okay. Thanks y'all.

The biggest problem with C diff, is for the elderly, or sickly, who are already com-batting something else, and on antibiotics for it...they then get this crazy c diff, that really takes over. A young healthy child should be just fine. It may take a couple rounds of antibiotics, but that won't harm her any. She is going to be just fine, trust your doctor.

Your daughter will be fine
70% of babies have C.diff as part of their normal gut flora.
Normaly it causes no harm and is evicted from the gut by aged 2.
Kids immature gut linings do not have the receptors that allow C.diff to become a disease.
Be wary though of a diagnosis of C.diff that needs treating in a young child,.
A knowlagable Dr would know that a young child can be colonised but not need treating.
Theres been a few exceptions though so you should seek an experts advice.
If it comes back the next med is Vancomycin, don't let them continue with Flagyl.
Both meds need a full 10 day course otherwise a relapse is more likley.
