Computer and ip addresses?

What is an ip address? And is it that each COMPUTER has a seperate ip address? Or what? So, when you have two computers in the same home with the same service provider; do both computers have their own ip address?

each computer has a different IP address, and sometimes 1 computer's IP address will change for various reasons. If you have 2 computers in the same house they will most likely have the same IP address except for the last few digits.

think of it as a number that defines that particular computer so information knows where it is being sent to and from, like your homes address for example. and yes each computer has its own ip address

Every device has it's own unique IP address. IP addresses can change. Type ipconfig to get some IP info.

There you have it. IP addresses in a nutshell.

Your computer has an external address assigned by your ISP.

Check www.whatismyip.com to see what it is.

Your router assigns internal addresses on your LAN.

Open a command prompt and enter ipconfig /all to see that each computer on the network has a different IP address.
