The truth about home energy?

has anyone really tried the DIY solar panels or are all of these just a scam. Thanks for any help

    I agree with LinLyons, the only reason my system is cost effective (over time) is because my meter runs backwards during day light. They utilities have strict rules about what they allow to tie into the grid, and I the permit process is difficult for a novice to deal with.

    I haven't seen a build-your-own-panel scheme for sale that isn't a borderline scam.

    When people save money with solar electric, that almost always by tying their panels to the grid through special equipment. It will be illegal to use homemade panels in this kind of setup, because homemade panels have no safety certification.

    Moreover, few DIY'ers have the resources to build something that will stand up to the elements as long as commercial panels.

    Building your own panels could be a fun project, as long as you don't have the expectations of saving money. And don't pay for plans. They are free on the internet, just hunt around for places like this http://www.instructables.com/solar/
