Put moss killer/grass fertilizer on lawn and now there's lots of blank soil left, what to do?

I put this moss, weed killer and grass fertilizer stuff on the lawn of a lady whose lawn I do and now just what few bits of grass which were there are left and the moss/weed killer has killed everything else so now it is mostly soil which is slightly coloured by the residue of moss killer. Should I just leave it and hope the grass spreads (it will need to spread a lot) or shall I dig up the blank soil and add some compost then grass seed which I then rake in?

Miracle Gro do tubs of grass seed for repairing patches like you have. It includes fertiliser and all you do is sprinkle the seed on the bare patches. It really does work. You can get it in B&Q or Homebase.

First of all you must rake the whole lawn to get rid of all the dead moss and weeds,Soften all the clay where you are putting new grass seed then sow the new seed and also seed over the old lawn so it will blend in and cover lightly with some fine soil then water,And repeat every night until the grass is established and after a few months put some feed and weed all over the lawn about 3 times a year it feeds the lawn and kills the weeds. You must keep on top of it and you will have a lovely green lawn to be proud of.

You need to re-seed the lawn.

The instructions on the bag of the moss/weed killer more than likely indicate to wait 3-4 weeks after application before re-seeding. Read the bag, wait the recommended time then re-seed.

Using a garden weasel to rough up the surface before re-seeding is recommended.

After re-seeding a particular area, sprinkle (or use a spreader) to apply the recommended amount of starter fertilizer over the area then use the garden weasel again to work the seed into the soil.

Keep the seed/soil wet until it begins to sprout, then water every day until the grass gets about an inch to ensure most seeds have an opportunity to germinate.

The cooler the weather the longer the germination period.

And don't worry, you can get grass to grow just about any where.

I recommend a self repairing fescue blend.

Once you get it growing it continues to establish nicely.

    You screwed up...

    That moss wasn't hurting anything.

You don't get moss anywhere that is suitable for grass, moss is a very delicate plant... Having moss, means there's something growing there... killing the moss, leaves you with bare soil, where nothing will grow.

Don't bother putting grass there, it will just die.

Do a search for shade plants.

Maybe some mondo / lilyturf? or some violets? ajuga?

    EDIT:

I dunno bout the poster that disagrees with me, they don't mention where they grow all this grass in unsuitable locations for it...

Both of you should mention this important information, as gardening in the heat is a different thing from cool climate turf. It's concievable that the below poster gets some cold clime grasses to grow in the shade, but it couldn't be done in heat zone gardens.

I'd like to see some evidence for the claim of turf in these unsuitable locations, pictures over a couple of years... It's not hard to post a blog, and if you're going to make outrageous claims, you should back them up with pics.

I know people with the $ to pay to have the soil worked, amendments added, sod put down, and year after year, it's wasted effort.
