I want italics to function like capitalizing, using something like the shift key on Mac Microsoft Word?
You know how when you want to type a capital letter you can just press "shift" then the letter and kablamo? I want to be able to press a key or a combination of keys and the press letters to type italics, bold, or whatever have you. Example: press both bracket keys then a letter key and it italicizes it... I know you can turn your cursor to type italics with a command and then turn it off again, but that's not what I want. Is anything I want even possible? Thanks...
I totally understand there are commands to change font to italics, everyone; as I said, I want italics to function like capitalization and the shift key. By holding down the shift key and typing all over my keyboard I get capital letters (duh). I want italics to be like that! Is it possible?

In Microsoft Word you can choose Tools > Customize Keyboard. You can set the Shift key to be Italics. If you choose this, then the Shift key will no longer be for upper case, so consider making another keyboard shortcut for upper case while you're there.

Select the text you want to show in italics and press the command and I key or command and B for bold or command and U for underlined. These are standard Mac keyboard shortcuts that should work on all Mac software.

command i = italics
command b = bold
command u = underline
command is the same as apple... as in they are the same button.
