18 hours to fly from London to Singapore...no it about 11hrs (since I live in New Zealand it's only the halfway point).
London has the tube (and you can get the tube from London Heathrow airport, the other airports have trains/buses into London) and the tube is a good way to get around. It is not that cheap (depending on how long you are there for you might consider an Oyster card which gives you concession card).
You can take the train from London to a number of places and just go for the day. People in York work in London and take the express train which takes 2hrs each way, so you could do a lot of day trips if you wanted and have to time.
Amsterdam has a train from the airport to the city and trams to get around it. You can walk it as its not that huge.
Paris has the metro but from the airport you take the RER train to which ever station you need and then the metro. The metro is very good in Paris, apparently you will not walk more than 500m to find a station.
I have not been to Zurich, but being Swiss it will be efficient and on time!
Most planes go to London so maybe thats a starting point...Paris and Amsterdam are both big airports with them being transit airports and either might be a better place to leave from, unless you want to leave from London as well....Maybe get tickets to and from London and then use planes in the area (www.skyscanner.net) or eurostar from London to Paris...You can get the Eurostar to Brussles as well and then take a train to Amserstam from there.
Train might be best to get to Zurich as well but a plane might be an option. Look at eurorail pass and see if its viable or look at some flights and see if that is better.
Time of year....Spring? Summer will be busier but Spring might be less pricy and its a lovely time to visit Paris.

Well you could fly into any of the places, i would suggest you can get a Euro rail pass, all these places in mainland europe are well connectted by rail.if you are a student youc an get reasonable discount> please be careful about paris though > happy travel
Travel Time: Singapore to any destination is 11 hrs flying time
Across these cities: one to two hours by air . Rail will take 4-6 hours

Yes, the train should be good option, but there are also lots of airlines here that you can use. It depends on your budget and time. You can find some travelling tips within those or other locations here:

or here

all and sundry above me did no longer point out that Polar flights are risky on your well being because of the fact the decreased ozone layer ability a lots better risk for radiation at that top point of altitude.... i grew to become right into a flight attendant and my company does no longer enable every person to do those flights better than as quickly as a month
