By college I assume you mean universities as well?

Depends on where in Africa you go. I believe though that some of the top universities in Africa are situated right here in South Africa (I'm sure you've heard of the university of Cape Town. Which is a great university for international students. And no you don't have to attend with an American study abroad program as far as I know). Expenses really depend on which course you're planning on studying here. However, expenses for tuition fees in countries such as South Africa, are significantly lower then that in the US as far as I know. But that also varies from university to university (But not by much).

Take for example tuition fees for Medicine:

    Harvard: $47,500

University of Cape Town: R34 500 (In 2009, which converts to approximately $4674,80. SIGNIFICANTLY lower then in the US).

I'm sure you'll continue to find that American universities are much more expensive, even when not as highly ranked as Harvard, then universities in South Africa, and possibly the rest of Africa.

Best option is to look up as many universities as possible, and go to their websites for more information on how you can enroll. Still can't get all the info you need? E-mail or call them directly. I'm sure they'll be more then willing to help. Here's a link with some of the top African Universities, together with their website addresses:

The question is impossible to answer, because it's too broad. Africa? Africa is a continent. What COUNTRY do you want to attend college in? What part of that country? What do you want to study? Figure that out first, then start making specific college inquiries.

If your plan is to return to the US at some point, then know that not all African uni degrees are considered equivalent to those in the US. You need to do some research on this before you do anything else.
