If it's against the dress code, it may be worth cutting it (I don't know how strict your school will be, but mine is very strict when it came to make up policies) until you leave college. Also, the fact that your 13 means that you can't go against your mother's wishes. It would be a good idea to talk to her as an adult - tell her that it is a fashionable style that plenty of people are following, and that you will keep it at no longer than it is now. You'll need to compromise if you want to get anywhere, good look sweetie!

Hey. I think your right. I love shaggy hair on boys, Its cute. Just tell your mom you would appreciate it if she let you do what you want. it's your hair. My mom used to force me to get haircuts. But I just asked her if I could have a say in what to do with it. Now, I just get my hair thinned out and my split ends cut. So, yeah hope I helped!

You are not going to convince your mom and even if you did it would not matter since you are not going to convince the school, especially a private school, where all the parents and students agree to adhere to the school rules as a condition of enrollment. If you don't cut it, the school will simply send you home until you do. This will probably result in your dad escorting you to the nearest barber shop for a haircut that is shorter than the school is requesting. If every other guy has short hair, I don't see the issue. Most thirteen year old guys more fully suit a regular layer/taper cut, ivy league or crew cut than the Zac Efron style and short hair is a lot easier to take care of. There are no long haired guys competing for the girls at the school, so it is not like you are being handicapped with a short style. If you want to continue at the school, the only issue is finding the best looking short style. A barber with a good aesthetic sense can usually design a regular layer/taper cut or one of the short pomp(pompadour) styles-crew cut, ivy league(long crew cut), flat top crew cut- to fully suit most young guy's head shape, face and neck shape, frontal hairline and facial features. Start off with a regular layer/taper cut, maximum of around three inches on top, brushed to the side and mostly off the forehead, sides and back tapered down as short as desired, and then if you want to go shorter, next haircut, try an ivy league. Shorter still, progressively shorter crew cuts. These are all easy to very easy to groom timeless, classic styles. A short style like a crew cut or ivy league usually needs cut at least every three weeks to look well groomed. Don't be afraid to experiment with the different short styles. It can be a lot of fun and is what guys did back before the Beatles introduced long hair. Prior to that time, just about every other college guy and college prep high school guy wore a short pomp style and those who did not wore a regular layer/taper cut and guys were constantly changing up styles between haircuts. A short crew cut, became a flat top crew cut, then a medium crew cut to a short ivy league, ivy league back to a medium crew cut, then back to an ivy league and short regular taper cut, back to a flat top crew cut and on and on. Any of the styles below can be designed to fully suit most thirteen year old guys. Start with a longer style and decide if you want to go shorter or if you are allowed longer hair than this, start with that style. In the end wearing a long haircut is not what is important at this stage in your life. The work you put into academics, athletics and other extracurricular activities will build a good foundation for high school and then admission to a good college. The school is actually looking out for your best interests as a young guy with a clean cut short style makes a much better first impression on the majority of people, especially adults. It is often difficult to overcome a bad first impression and many times it is not possible such as in a job or college admissions interview. The school is trying to assure you make a favorable impression by simply choosing one haircut over another.

Search the internet for images of soccer star Lukas Podolski for numerous examples of the ivy league and crew cut style.
A control wax will keep the hair looking well groomed at crew cut and ivy league length. A butch comb also helps- the small, flat, plastic, oval, pocket brushes that one finger fits through and barbers sell for about a dollar.
