    Neither.

It is based on revelation and the government of God which is given by authority directly from God.

Christ is the Lord. He appoints prophets and apostles at the head of his church.

We do not worship the book, or build our doctrine around what we think the "book" says, but the God of the book leads us literally.

Just as it has always been since the time of Adam until now.

Jesus did not base his religion on the Old Testament. The Pharisees did and they judged Christ against their "book" and thought that the words in the book would justify their judgment and treatment of him. They preferred the dead prophets in the book over the living ones of their day.

Our Lord was also accused of being a "madman" with "delusions" and so it is not surprising to be accused of the same things as our Master is it? We consider it a privilege : )

    So, the answer is neither.

P.S. To Mrs C ~ I'd like her to put her hand on the Bible and swear in all truth and honesty that God himself literally spoke to her and said those things that she claims he did. In all reality swear that she heard his literal audible voice from heaven spoke to her personally just as he spoke out of the heavens to Jesus as he came up out of the water and just as Paul was spoken to on the road... in all reality he spoke? She made a bold claim and I'd like to hear her swear that it's the truth.

It's based on the gospel of Jesus Christ which is found in the Bible. I think if you did a comparison, you would find that the teachings of the LDS Church are more Biblical than many other Christian Churches.

The Utah Mormons ruined Joseph Smith's Church , just like the Roman Catholics ruined the original first century Church . Joseph was only trying to bring that original gospel back . And the B of M is merely Jesus' dealings with some Mid-easterners who came to Central America long ago in order to be a free people . And you have to admit that the similarities between the Mayan God , Quetzalcoatl and Jesus is just too great to dismiss .

    Bible teachings

    Its not BASED on either.

It is its OWN record, of its OWN people, translated by a prophet of God. Its an additional record and testimony of Jesus Christ.

Its not based on anything else.

I have heard the one of the things that Joseph Smith has been praised for is bringing back Old Testament Christianity.

Joseph Smith was either the luckiest man alive, or he received true revelation from God. We can find evidence of all of his restored doctrines in the ancient Christian literature - literature that wasn't available to him. The premortal existance of man, the heavenly council, the true conception of hell or sheol, the visit of the resurrected Christ to sheol, the importance of priesthood authority, the true definition of a prophet, the correct doctrine of the nature of God; all of these are spot on, and fairly exclusive to the LDS church. Sometimes the one man walking alone is right, and everyone else is wrong.

I believe it was written by a guy looking into a hat

bible teachings no doubt......but not necessarily man's interpretations of those teachings (which creates all the sects of christianity today)

that would be like a methodist asking if catholicism or protestantism or any other 'ism' is based on the bible. the answer would have to be of course.
