Do I need a new mouse?

I have very little control over my computer mouse. It skips all over the page, and sometimes disappears from off the page altogether. Sometimes the page scrolls all the way to the bottom, of it's own volition. This mouse is about three or four years old. I took it apart and cleaned it really well, but that made no difference. It still has a mind of it's own. What's wrong? Do I need to buy a new mouse?

Update:

No, didn't change batteries. It plugs into my computer. There's no place to put a battery.

Update 2:

Smoke DatKUSH: I asked a simple question. There's no need for you to be hostile to me, and call me names (retard). If you don't like the question don't answer it. Just skip right over it and go on to the next one. Your attitude is showing... and it's ugly.

If it is a laser mouse the chances are that its power is weakening, it could be possible that the cable is breaking inside. The same thing about the cable is for a ball mouse. There is a possibility for a laser mouse that you have not realized that the pad should be compatible with the laser, if you put something totally red or black, those pads will absorbe the laser instead of reflecting it to its electronics. Check that.

    My best regards.
