Is boot camp absolutely necessary?

This is more of a hypothetical question. Let's say I owned a Macintosh computer, and wanted to run Windows 7 on it, exclusively instead of in a multi-boot setup. Would I still need Boot Camp to facilitate this, or would I be able to wipe out the drive completely and start fresh, without a trace of Apple software?

Update:

@Bradley: That's exactly why it's a hypothetical question. I wouldn't ever buy a Mac, and if I did, I would buy it with the intent of using Mac OS on it.

Not possible. Mac's Don't have a the option to show the BIOS and install would be impossible and boot would probably fail, and why would you want to have a mac running windows with no OS Lion/X might as well buy a PC for £400 less

You can't do a fresh install of a WinOS on a Mac so you would need to use Boot Camp to run Win7 on it

It is possible but not recommended. It is a pain in the *** to reinstall Mac OS after. I use El Capitan and Xp Pro 64 on my 2009 MBPro
