How to prevent a bougainvillea from growing long branches ank keep it looking like a round bush?

It is in a large pot on my balcony and it grow very long branches. I wanted to make it look like a dense bush. Like the ones you buy in stores. Any suggestions?

    Prune hard to desired shape after flowering. They can take it.

    constant pruning..... bougies 'wander' .. that is the beauty of them....it's naturally a vine, so if you want some other 'look', you'll have to work for it.....
